Hi there!

Kids today can't appreciate good hard games. They get frustrated and go online to find codes and strategies.

I only use cheat codes when I am doing a lazythrough.

I haven't played it, but this seems like a good candidate:

Takeshi's Challenge

I should elaborate on the image.

Super Meat Boy went on sale on Steam.

Very, very difficult game reminiscent of classic NES games.

I can't believe I forgot Space Panic.  Easy enough to beat the first couple of levels, but the monsters that need to fall through 2 levels.. I can't kill them!

Not only have I never beat this game, I don't know how to beat this game or if it's even possible to beat this game.

Fitting that you posted Friday The 13th when your avatar has a hockey mask on..
The game has an ending.  But dear God, do you need a map to get around.. and know what items to collect..
Later on in the game you have to fight Jason's mom's disembodied head (!) and make your way through woods that are SUPER easy to get lost in.
I didn't find this out until way later, after I gave up on this game.

They're both LJN games. So don't bother.

Since the NES seems well represented, I think I'll take the opportunity to represent the Sega Genesis with some of the hardest, tough-as-nails games you've ever seen.

Note: Sword of Sodan is mentioned earlier, but the game is only hard because it's utterly incompetent. If we want to add incompetent games, we ought to throw Last Action Hero, Cliffhanger, and Cutthroat Island in there. Last Battle and Spiderman/X-men Arcade's Revenge are pretty unfair.

1. Contra Hard Corps
2. Adventures of Batman and Robin
3. Phantasy Star II
4. Dynamite Headdy
5. Alien Soldier
6. Streets of Rage 3
7. Chakan the Forever Man
8. Eternal Champions
9. Battletoads (third level is slightly more reasonable than the NES version)
10. Comix Zone
11. Ghouls N' Ghosts
12. Revenge of Shinobi
13. Shadow Dancer
14. Truxton
15. Most shooters, for that fact.

Welcome. Yup, Contra Hard Corps - I never did beat that game... however I did complete Eternal Champions.

Some would add Dark Souls to the list. Dark Souls is more time-consuming than hard. Take it from a guy who's on New Game++.

One of the all-time tough bastiches!
BAGMAN (1982, Valadon/Stern)
ONE SINGLE FRIGGIN' ACT (level/round/whatever) requires you to dump several bags of gold, one at a time, in your wheelbarrow while avoiding guards, shafts, mine carts, and a stingy timer on three different screens!  Good music and controls make it playable, but God is it hard!

You can lump Super Bagman in there too.  It has FIVE screens!  But at least you can shoot/bomb the cops.
