I became aware of Mandela back in the '70's.  I am not keen on the current trend to present the man as some sort of a saint: I feel that actually diminishes his achievements.  What is most remarkable about him is that he emerged from imprisonment and re-created himself and his country into something far, far better than what they had been. No big deal for a saint; a huge achievement of effort for a mere flawed human, on all levels.  THAT is rare and admirable.

His ex-wife's actions represent the road he decided he could and would no longer follow.

Indiana- It's no disrespect to him to discuss those sort of things. While he was in jail the ANC resorted to some brutal tactics.

Why does this s**t have to happen when the guy just died? Is it really necessary to go out of your way to dis the guys wife after he died? If you say yes, then you are making yourself look like an assh*le with a dildo shoved up your ass.
yeah no.

Rev. Powell

Ex-wife. Just a guess, but I doubt Nelson would have taken serious offense to people trashing Winnie.
I'll take you places the hand of man has not yet set foot...

I guess it's hard to fault the guy for starting something up then having no control over it after he got locked up for 20+ years. Nelson dropped the ball, the ANC picked it up, but then they ran toward the wrong goal with it.

the past couple of days I've been reading a lot about Mandela's life, some positive, some negative. I have absolutely no idea what to think about the guy. The media obviously turned him into some kind of symbol for peace, hope and integrity, but the more I read about his pre-incarceration life the more I gather his involvement with terrorist style tactics and organisations was more prominent than the media has ever let on. I just don't know... he's not impacted my life in any way so all I can conclude is:  RIP to 'some guy' called Nelson Mandela

MIsfot- the people who died via neckacing died horrible deaths. There's no glossing that over.

No, there isn't. Go to Metacrawler.com, type in the word "necklacing" in the website's search engine, and you'll get a pretty clear picture of that legacy.

There is a time and place for that, here an now isn't. no matter how hard you try, you are acting like they kid who cried wolf. True at the end, whiny brat who wants attention at the beginning.

So we were lying since the beginning? It appears that the truth from the very beginning is what is making you so upset.

All of human history seems a bit sh!t smeared.  Frankly, I do not necessarily disagree with you, but we, the Badmovies community, need to try to hang onto civility.

More like how we are not amused at this s**t.

That's good, because I wasn't trying to be funny either.
