Ugh.  Probably a good argument why alcohol and/or stupid and fireworks don't mix.

Devon Staples, 22, of Calais was in a friend's backyard on South Street with a group of others when the incident occurred at approximately 10 p.m. The explosion caused a fatal head injury, and Staples died instantly, said Stephen McCausland, spokesman for the Maine Department of Public Safety.

Staples had been drinking with his friends when the incident occurred, McCausland said.

"When he suggested he was going to do this, his friends gathered around him and they thought they had convinced him not to do it," McCausland said Sunday.

We put on firecrackers this year and I made the kiddies stand and see an image an ER nurse friend of mine sent me about a guy who was holding one and it went off.   It was a bleeding wrist with half a thumb left.  They were very careful.

Wouldn't you know it? This story, while it happened in Maine, has a Florida connection.

The man who died was a former employee of  Walt Disney World in Florida. And to make the story even stranger, he was Gaston from "Beauty and the Beast"  in meet 'n' greets at Disney Hollywood Studios.

And his mother is now demanding "safer fireworks legislation" because fireworks killed her son.


I sympathize with her grief, but it was STUPIDITY that killed her son.  Setting off an explosive charge on top of your head is hazardous to your health!

Agree it was stupidity... Maybe his mother should do a world a favor and STOP HAVING STUPID CHILDREN!



If the man READ the cation he should know NOT TO PUT ANY FIREWORKS ON THE TOP OF YOUR HEAD...

He's an idiot!

His mother's is an idiot!

And anybody pushing  "safer fireworks legislation" should be voted out of office!
