I treat the New Line ones (JGTH, Jason X, and FvJ) like comic book movies or what-ifs. Even so, JGTH is my least favorite ...and it's hard to outdo the terribleness that was parts 3 and 8, but somehow they made something even worse. Jason X is fun maybe only because Jason is still played straight. Hodder shows that Jason would treat chumps the same way no matter what situation he was in. It was a goofy entry but somehow fun.

My favorite is part 2 (I second Ginny! -best Final Girl ever) and part 4 (Ted White is my favorite Jason). Part 5 is so ridiculous and sucky that, like a snake eating its own tail, it breaks through to the other side of suck and somehow becomes awesome. Excuse me while I go do the Robot in my room.

Ok, I'm back. I rambled on quite some time on an F13 retrospective if anyone cares to check it out:

you didn't think parts 3 and 8 were 'so bad it's good' then? they really are for me. I get a badmovie kick out of both!

agree Goes To Hell is horrible though. not in a good way, just a lame way.

Thoughts on something I am, of course, aware, but . . .?! have never seen.

They'll keep doing it, till they get it right. "Friday the 13th" to be released January 13, 2017, if they can start shooting by the end of this month. If not, then look for it to be released sometime in the last half of 2017. I don't know whether it is a sequel to the 2009 film or a completely new remake of the 1980 original.

No children were killed during the making of these films.

The one other thing I can remember about this series of films, that sometime ago, (which I can no longer remember when, it has been so long ago) in one of the magazines dedicated to horror films (which I can no longer remember the title of) the writer of the article took the time to try to figure out the age of every character killed in each of the films, up to that time. And the one thing I do remember from the article that all the characters killed in the films were 18 and over.

And we'll see what we'll see.

They're the junkfood of movies.  They're not good for you and you shouldn't make them a mine point of your diet, but every once in a while you just need that little something sweet.

There are parts of 3 and 8 that I do like (flashes of coolness) but overall, I found them rather dull for the most part (part 3 is so lazy). Richard Brooker's Jason (and all scenes with him in the mask) were awesome. 3 does have a good chase scene, even if I do find the Final Girl in that one kinda irritating.

The only thing cool in part 9 was the cameo of the Necronomicon and the Creepshow crate in the background.

Not to go too far off topic, but the F13 video game currently in development looks amazing. There's a clip from Higgin's Haven (part 3) that looks totally authentic and Jason does the same walk after his kill as he did in the movie after shooting Vera in the eye; it gave me goosebumps!

I'm a backer on that!  Sounds like it'll be fun.  A lot of Friday the 13th vets are doing some degree of work on it, including Harry Manfredini (composer), Kane Hodder, and Sean Cunningham.  I'm betting their work is fairly small though, but still pretty cool.

I'm a bit concerned about mocap deaths though..  That gets old in many games.  We'll see.

I love Jason.  No bulls**t.  He sees people, he kills people.  Boom.  The end.

agreed. none of this 'hilarious' quips and catchphrases nonsense like certain other serial-killing baddies

I never liked any of them.
I'm with you.
I 'm an old-school horror fan, and I've never cared for gore for the sake of gore, which is all these are. Also, if I were a teenager, I'd be offended by the fact that the folks making these flicks seem to think that all teens are brainless sex / drug machines, fit only to be chainsaw-fodder.
If it's true what they say, that GOD created us in His image, then why should we not love creating, and why should we not continue to do so, as carefully and ethically as we can, on whatever scale we're capable of?

The choice is simple; refuse to create, and refuse to grow, or build, with care and love.

Stupid movies like the FRIDAY THE  13 series are boring-watching folks get hacked up-doesnt make for  a good movie-
the original TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE-along the same lines-was very scary-the Friday movies are BORING and very routine .Its a bad remake of Bava's  A BAY OF BLOOD (1971)-which is much better.

Fair enough... I don't think the F13 movies are pretending to be anything other than slasher junk food really though... the gore for gore's sake argument is something I'd say applies to a lot of these newer 'torture porn' movies more than the F13s, which now look tame by comparison.

no doubt the F13 movies can't compare to the best giallos of the 70s. A good deal of those slasher style giallo movies were more artistically done and had more interesting plots in general, and were also more shocking. Stuff like Deep Red and What Have You Done To Solange, Lizard In A Woman's Skin etc. are just on a different level...

To me, the first 2 are the best films with the best scares and surprises. Yeah they definitely ripped off Bay of Blood though. I felt 6 was the most fun, 3 & 4 & 5 were just passable but felt like part of the series. I don't know...I just don't like the later films that followed as much. I hated all the ones made in the 2000s...and pretty much everything that wasn't made in the 80s. Yeah to me, the 80s films are more enjoyable to watch in that let's see unlikable characters get maimed sort of way...
