Omg, so much cool stuff to track down!

You want weird?  I got weird.  The Bed Sitting Room (1969).  A very surreal comedy written by Spike Milligan about a future in which a short nuclear war causes all manner of bizarre things to happen.  In a Kafkaeque plotline, someone mutates into a bed sitting room.

Oooh, I've got another one.  The Final Programme (1973).  Based on a novel by Michael Moorcock, this one is... uh... kind of hard to describe.  I'll let the trailer give you an idea.

The writer uses poor English, and I personally wouldn't qualify all of those as 2016 releases. Some of them only played film festivals and very few people had a chance to see them (including me). That said, they're not bad choices.

I recommend THE LURE and SWISS ARMY MAN unconditionally. (THE LURE was even picked up by the Criterion Collection for a 2017 release). I recommend THE GREASY STRANGLER only if you love grossouts and want to see Tim & Eric mixed with John Waters.

Here's our list for comparison: http://366weirdmovies.com/10-weirdest-movies-of-2016/. We classify movies as belonging to the year they're first widely screened, either in theaters or home video. That guy must have considered THE LOBSTER as a 2105 release, I don't see how he could have passed over it otherwise.
I'll take you places the hand of man has not yet set foot...

I just finished a film called Sam Was Here (think it was renamed from Nemesis). I feel like the whole thing was designed to cause speculation, seen a lot of strange movies over the years but this is gonna be special in my memory I think
