Drug addiction-booze addiction.
I'm a drunk-ain't a mystery.I love it and I hate it.The best times of my life are when I'm high. The worst times as well.
I'v'e done drugs-still smoke pot. Still drink-even though it's killing me.
Have you ever been addicted to drugs or booze? It sucks-BUT-I can't imagine my world without it.The world seemed meaningless and hollow-just repetitive s**t.And now my addiction has turned into what I hated.Repetitive s**t. I'm-as the famous movie saying goes-"I AM In a world of s**t""

The Velvet Underground make it seem cool.

Theres nothing "cool" about it. It sucks.

You have my sympathies, old friend.  I know addiction is a disease - but I also know that, if you never try addicting substances, you don't get addicted.  So I've never once been drunk in my life, nor have I ever tried pot or any other illegal drugs.  Heck, unless I'm dying, I don't even take anything stronger than aspirin.  I'm not meaning to come across as bragging or anything, I just have no interest in those things.  Life is cool enough without them.  THAT'S my addiction.  Life.  I don't want to give it up, even though I know I eventually must.

My friend-I did't start this life wanting to be hooked on s**t. I'm weak. I couldn't handle what life threw at me.
It's no excuse. I wrote it as a warning-not an enticement. Did I spell that right?
I envy you,my friend.
Love you Indy. Thank you.

to answer your question in the topic, yes you spelled addiction correctly

I've never been addicted to drugs or drinking but I have known my share of those who have been, including growing up with a cousin we all were waiting on to die (she recovered and is still alive) and another cousin who is one of the two main worries of my life, though she tells us she has been sober since July 23rd.

Where I live there is a terrible heroin epidemic right now, so bad the morgues are overfilled. It's terrifying, tragic, horrible. It is so bad recently the far-right county prosecutor went on TV and said whoever you are if you have heroin and voluntarily turn it in to a police officer, we will not prosecute you, we only want to get this off the streets.

It's so bad few people don't at least know of someone who has died.

My issues have never been drugs but I have had my own obsessions that have not been good for me.

When I first came here to BMDO....even before then since I read a few months before I joined, my impression, RC, based on what you were saying, was you were in a terminal state then, but you're still here a decade later, and though I know you are hard on yourself, that's something that you can and should be proud of. People have come back from dark places, and I think you could as well.
What does not kill me makes me stranger.

Rev. Powell

I tried every drug under the sun and the only ones I ever got addicted to were caffeine and nicotine. The others all had horrible downsides (nicotine has a truly horrible downside, too, but it doesn't appear immediately).

Loved drinking heavily when I was young but I quit once the hangovers, weight gain and drunken embarrassments started getting too much to tolerate. I don't think my brain chemistry is set up to be a drunk. I still love a drink or two in the evening or with dinner.

I got addicted to painkillers not long after Dad passed but I managed to go cold turkey and have been clean for six years.

Whoa! You are full of surprises. Congratulations!

But how can you beat drug addiction and not beat your undies problem?

Thanks: it's strange that I got addicted to Ibuprofen of all things: I was at film school when I realized that I was taking five or six tablets a day for no reason. When this hit me, I flushed my six months supply down the toilet.

I also beat smoking in 2009: I still get a smoking urge, believe it or not.

I have no idea at all. Even buying new ones doesn't help.  :teddyr: :teddyr:
