A good bad movie is like popcorn for the soul!

I was supposed to go last night but didn't get to.
Going with my daughter Friday (my wife steadfastly refuses to watch scary films, but both my girls are horror junkies, God bless'em!).
I'll give my review then.

Since my friend ER posted the most laconic review in the history of this forum, and since I finally did get to see this last night, here are my thoughts:

BRILLIANT!  This movie worked on multiple levels for me.
First of all, it was a very worthy adaptation of a novel that was difficult to bring to the screen for a variety of reasons.  While some aspects of the plotlines were abandoned and streamlined, it kept true to the heart of King's dark masterpiece.
Second, the child actors who played the main characters were perfect.  From "Stuttering Bill" to poor, doomed little Georgie, to Beverly the junior high scarlet woman, the kids chosen for the parts embraced and became the  characters and had an incredible chemistry together.  And the teenager who played psychotic bully Henry Bowers was spot-on, radiating menace, yet at the same time pathetic.
Pennywise - holy cow, the demonic clown entity that feeds on the fear of children is going spawn nightmares for a whole new generation now!
Overall, this was purely and simply one of the best horror movies I have ever seen, and I am already excited for IT: CHAPTER TWO which will be released next year.

It looked nice, when the screen wasn't awash in unconvincing CGI.

Great performances given to characters who are not given enough time to properly develop.

Way too many jump scares. They don't scare me; they don't make me jump. They make me want to slap someone until their nose bleeds as I scream, "This is the best you got?"

Pennywise was fairly interesting, but never scary. And teeth. Lots of teeth. "Ooh, let's make his mouth into an alien/shark thing, but we'll have him spend so much time opening his mouth that he never gets to eat the damn kids."

At best, I found it to be merely adequate. I would have had more fun watching "A Serbian Film" again.
