How did you come to love bad movies?

I remember when I was very young going to see an Italian rip off of Star Wars in the cinema starring Richard Kiel and Barbera Bachman, and another time Kirk Douglas, Harvey Keitel and Farrah Fawcett in Saturn 9 (although I spent that movie rooting for the robot). Pretty sure it was movies like these that kick started my love for bad movies. These days I have all those films on DVD, but I'll never forget watching them on the big screen.

After watching and making fun of Black Samurai (1977). My sister and me were in tears from laughing so hard. When renting tapes we then made it a point to pick at least one movie that looked really bad, so that we could make fun of it. Soon enough we discovered A Night to Dismember (1983) and it blew our mind, and I was totally hooked on bad movies.
We used to watch A Night to Dismember religiously and it got more hilarious with every viewing.

I used to watch T&A flicks (BARBARIAN QUEEN was my favorite!) as a teenager (for the T&A). Found them amusing. Then I saw a listing for PLAN 9 FROM OUTER SPACE in the newspaper at 17 and it sounded like a hoot. But the one that really sold me on the whole concept was GLEN OR GLENDA? After I saw that I was totally hooked.

My love of bad movies started when I was a little kid (but I didn't really consider them to be bad movies back then!) I watched a lot of junk on TV (the Godzilla/Rodan/Mothra, etc., movies, the black & white monster movies from the 1950s, cheesy space movies) . . . I also made my mother take me to see a lot of Saturday matinee junk at the theater. Now I'm almost 54 years old and I own all that crap on DVD or blu-ray.

When I was about 13 years old (circa 1983), I saw Star Crash on local TV one Sunday afternoon.

I knew nothing about the movie but at the time I was a Star Wars crazed kid who would watch pretty much anything with the words "Star," "Space," "Galaxy," etc. in the title.

Needless to say, the sight of Caroline Munro in that leather space bikini and boots made quite an impression! :D

That was my intro to the wild 'n' wacky world of Italian/Euro exploitation films and I was immediately hooked!

I'm a life-long Massachusetts resident and grew up watching lots of trash on channel 56 and channel 38. We had at least 6 or 8 drive-in theaters within a reasonable driving distance of where we lived. Good times.

ER

Funny, yesterday I asked my dad if he liked watching bad movies and he said in high school he and his friends liked watching this Elvira-like show hosted by a crazy local character called the Kool Ghoul. He said Kool Ghoul was better than his movies, and it's a shame he was before my time. Now I'm going to go find Kool Ghoul on YouTube.

(Imagine if my question about bad movies led my dad to this site. Man would the tone of some of my posts hafta change...  :buggedout:
