In 1970, they had a show out of Kalamazoo called Channel 3 Clubhouse. It had some lady with puppets and s**t, with a live kid audiance. Anyway they had this cartoon on it- RUFF AND REDDY. I still can recite the lyrics.

There was another thread where we mentioned cartoons we grew up with.  So I'll repost:
THE NEW ADVENTURES OF BATMAN (1977)
My sisters and I watched the hell out of this one.  Adam West and Burt Ward voiced Batman and Robin!  Lou Scheimer himself voiced Bat-Mite and other characters.
! No longer available
I watched plenty of TARZAN, LORD OF THE JUNGLE (1976), also by Filmation and with the great voice of Bob Ridgely as Tarzan!
! No longer available
And we watched plenty of THE PLASTIC MAN COMEDY ADVENTURE SHOW (1979):
! No longer available
And during commercial breaks for CBS cartoons we got this:
IN THE NEWS
! No longer available
Plenty of great bumpers during Saturday morning cartoons:
ABC's "After these messages, we'll be riiight back":
! No longer available
CBS's Video-gamey/spacey bumpers:
! No longer available
And Casey Kasem did the NBC bumpers-- nothing fancy:

I loved Johnny Quest.

I remember IN THE NEWS. It showed when the helicopter was airlifting people off the embassy in Saigon! When I was watching Scooby Doo!

I remember some cartoons in the late 70s/early 80s with plot devices that made me certain the creators were on something illegal!
MIGHYMAN and YUKK-- a portion of the PLASTIC MAN COMEDY ADVENTURE SHOW where a guy could turn tiny and super strong, and he had a giant dog sidekick with a face so ugly it could incapacitate the bad guys, so he had a tiny doghouse over it.  WTF??
! No longer available
THE NEW SCHMOO-- why did they bring the Li'l Abner character into modern times (late 70s anyway) and make him a stretchy superhero??
! No longer available
SHIRT TALES-- a bunch of zoo animals have t-shirts on that say what they're thinking.  Their shirts should have said HANNAH BARBERA ARE HIGH!!!!
RUBIK, THE AMAZING CUBE-- They turned the classic puzzle into a f***ing friendly alien thing??  My brain is officially soup now.
! No longer available
And taking popular shows or young actors and giving them their own cartoon show NEVER works.  Laverne and Shirley, Mork and Mindy, The Partridge Family, The Gary Coleman Show, Punky Brewster.. egad.

Kids today will never know the joy of spending Saturday mornings watching Charles Nelson Reilly and Ruth Buzzi . . . sigh . . .

Saturday morning in the 80's usually found me fishing or drinking. :drink: I did a lot of both back then.

I do remember the Mighty Heros! From 196something- with Tornado Man! Rope Man! And Diaper Man!
One of the most insipid cartoons of all time.

I'm 34.  I'm of the last generation to have some semblance of Saturday morning cartoons on the major networks (ABC, CBS, mostly, and if you consider Fox or the WB major).  Around the time of the early/mid 90s, we had cable channels like Nickelodeon and Cartoon Network that had almost all cartoons and kids programming so the main networks started cancelling them.  Also, ABC aired Looney Tunes, but at like noon when no kids really wanted to keep watching tv because they wanted to go out to play.
