Dean Koontz's phantoms is a rarity: An intelligent horror movie with sf overtones.

I don't want to spoil it for anyone, so i'll just say that if you like intelligent action, suspense, horror and good plots, you should like phantoms.

I loved the book; it is my favorite of all his works.
I think I saw the film but I don't remember a whole lot about it.

the movie is fine, IF you didn't read the book. i get VERY peeved with movies that don't do  justice to the book the way i want them to, and it's rare for me to change my mind. the shining is one of the few that i finally accepted as "just" a movie, and detached my brain from my love for the book.

Lucky you,  you must have found. A. Copy.  I check out used book stores and never find one.  I find his other works but not that one,  dammit.

absolutely HATE clockwork orange! but i've never read the book, and i DO know it's a very well done movie, but it's way too dark for me. one of hubby's top 10 though.

I haven't seen "Phantoms" in a while but I vaguely remember that it didn't suck, for whatever that's worth.

I had a major "thang" for Rose McGowan at the time so the fact that she was in it probably raised my rating a bit. :D

I've been meaning to revisit it but haven't gotten round to it yet.

Funny, I read the book as a teenager at school and loved it, to the point where I was constantly speaking in Nadsat (the Anglo-Euro slang patois in which the book is written) and some people started calling me Alex, after the main character.  I was pretty ho-hum about the movie.  Yes, the book is a bit dark but it's a very insightful commentary on changing social attitudes, juvenile delinquency and crime, Skinnerian psychology and the role of government in social reform.
