OK, since according to the feds I'm now a criminal deserving 20 years in prison (And you may be one too: https://www.techdirt.com/articles/20150606/16191831259/according-to-government-clearing-your-browser-history-is-felony.shtml) I thought I'd focus on criminal movies, movies that feature criminals and their crimes as main elements.

First off, I think that the old film noir classic "In cold blood" by Truman Capote, is possibly the best criminal movie ever. Don't let the time it was made in make you think it's a safe movie, it's very brutal even without buckets of blood. The cold blooded murder of  family is portrayed with no punched pulled. Some scenes are very hard to watch emotionally, a tribute to the film makers who were working under the far more restrictive standards of the day. The criminals are neither glorified nor demonized but portrayed as they likely were: Rather shabby and pathetic people who simply couldn't function in normal society due to various factors including terrible childhoods. They were portrayed as human beings who did terrible things. Ironically one of the actors who played the murderers went on to commit a murder himself only to b acquitted. The criminals, victims, police and lawyers were all portrayed honestly and without embellishment. A brutal movie  befitting a brutal crime and it's aftermath. Still hard hitting even today.

New Jack City. A fair look at the rise of crack and the people who sold it during it's peak in the 80's. People made fortunes at the cost of their families, friends, freedom and lives. The people selling crack and the people hinting them are all portrayed with their warts on. Maybe wesley snipes best movie.

I agree with your comments about IN COLD BLOOD. A great crime film and probably the best book about crime that I have ever read.

I'm a big fan of crime movies. Some of my favorites are:

* THE FRENCH CONNECTION

* ANGELS WITH DIRTY FACES

* MONSTER

* DOG DAY AFTERNOON

* GOODFELLAS

* RESERVOIR DOGS

But there are many, many others.

"Do not walk behind me, for I may not lead. Do not walk ahead of me, for I may not follow. Do not walk beside me either. Just pretty much leave me the hell alone."

Although I like the guy a lot, some of Uwe Boll's films are crimes against humanity.  :wink:
We shall meet in the place where there is no darkness.

I think Se7en is my favourite. Just a shame about Spacey.

To add something new to the list I'll mention Ocean's 11, 12 and 13.
Kubrick, Nolan, Tarantino, Wan, Iñárritu, Scorsese, Chaplin, Abrams, Wes Anderson, Gilliam, Kurosawa, Villeneuve - the elite

I've always had  a thing for the 30's and 40's gangster movies. PUBLIC ENEMY, the PETRIFIED FOREST, LITTLE CAESAR, and it's ilk.

Two picks I liked,  "the asphalt jungle" and "odds against tomorrow" just missed your timeframe.

Yeah,  at the rate we're going we'll have to have computer digital editing replace every actor who ever offended anyone with a new,  acceptable,  certified Inoffensive actor...

Stalin would be proud. He liked to erase all references to those that he found unacceptable.  Ironically after his death some soviet films with him in them we're edited to remove him.

I think Spacey's crimes rate a bit above just offending people.
