What's with the big Nationalism wave hysteria going over the planet?
My guess would be it is part of society building itself up for the next big war. The rules-based order that has more or less kept the peace for decades is increasingly being subverted by the big players. There doesn't seem to be a right or wrong side, just us and them. Still, if it does happen then afterward any survivors can argue which country is the best cinder block on the planet and tell comforting lies to each other about how it wasn't their fault.
