The funny thing about the equinox is that people  used to assume it was of some special significance. It was considered something holy, divine,  etc. It was believed it had to be some important event in some sort of grand plan.

Now we know it's a simple effect of earth's orbit around the sun, the purely mechanical process of orbital mechanics. Simply a by-product of natural forces well understood today.
