Brazil, a world so bleak the only escape for the hero lies in insanity.

THE BOOK OF ELI is interesting because it deals with a bleak world, but it tries to send a message of hope to it. Really enjoyed that one.

Gee I wish people would get over the contest and talk about one movie at a time.

I thought of one: LOGAN'S RUN

Well, there are so many. After Alien and Blade Runner, a bleak future became more or less the default for movies. Even Star Trek, that most optimistic and shiny of franchises got grittier.

More on topic, does Robot Monster count? After all, humanity is all but extinct in that one.

Wasn't the whole plot of ROBOT MONSTER imagined by the kid? He was some crazy bastard.
