"God Games" by The Kills

You just picked my mum's Yule present with one of those,.
Hail to thyself
For I am my own master
I am my own god
I require no shepherd
For I am no sheep.

Your mum is a huge Kills fan, huh?

I do highly recommend the Hishashi disc.

And so it begins. Actually, the lead track, "Warm in December" is cool, not a holiday song per se.

Did you know that Billy Bragg only got a record deal due to a lucky series of coincidences?

Well lucky for him. Not for anyone who doesn't like his music I guess.

A record company rep was due to go see him live, but arrived late and missed the whole set, however, he could tell the atmosphere in the place was electric. He asked a random woman at the bar how the concert had been and she gave a glowing review, so he decided to offer him a record contract.

The reason for the atmosphere was that a huge fight had just been broken up, and the random woman he spoke to happened to be Billy's girlfriend.

Cool story. He's a good songwriter and I do like some of his stuff. His political obsessions can be a bit much at times.

Near where we live is a sort of hippy commune called the Findhorn Foundation. I took a cursery look at them some years ago and they seemed to have a bit in common with Scientology with the whole alien souls thing. Anyway, there is a lot of money there. Billy Connolly and Madonna are both said to have homes in it. Billy Bragg seems to play at the Foundation Hall quite a lot which always makes me wonder if he listens to his own lyrics.
