OK I seen this in the early 2000's. It was from then or the 90's don't think it was any earlier.

Very vague but here I go. A woman wakes up at home and maybe with her boyfriend but the town is deserted. Like an apocalypse or something has happened. They are in a town in the US maybe bordered by a desert rough sandy terrain anyway. Someone else joins them or else its her boyfriend memory is ropey but he is kind of your rough and tumble hero with sun glasses and all. They go on a road trip fighting either zombies, monsters, vampires or something to save the world

Maybe you're thinking of NIGHT OF THE COMET (1984)? https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0087799/?ref_=nv_sr_srsg_0

Great film, but unfortunately not Night of the Comet. Was defo more late 90's-esque

After a couple of months of thinking on this, I suspect the film that Clauzy has in mind is UNDEAD (2003). Three survivors in the outback (a woman and two men, one of whom is her friend or boyfriend, the second shows up a bit later) fighting alien zombie things. The woman and the newcomer do eventually leave the primary location of the film and sort of go on a "road trip", but this is the very end of the film, iirc. Don't remember a heck of a lot of details, as I found this one dreadfully dull and disappointing after a lot of hype. However, it fits the time period and the plot details that Clauzy supplied....... wonder if Clauzy will check back in.......
