Every country has its good points and bad points. They all have bad things from their history. Celebrate the good, remember the bad if only so you can avoid repeating it.

For I am no sheep.

No. You don't see statues of Hitler in Germany or Stalin in Russia. It seems like when genocide is mentioned- we point at Hitler, Stalin, Mao- etc.
But not may folks bring up the murder of the Indian Nations, or the uncounted number of slaves who died.
So why we still have statues of Robert E. Lee and Confederate flags flying over State Capitols- I don't get it. Why are exempt? We aren't the Chosen Ones! Not even according to the Bible! Chosen by who? God? God has nothing to do with this sorry sh!t.

On the other hand- I do believe the statues should be saved- In a musuem. Next to Nazi armbands and KKK hoods.

This wasn't about the Confederate memorials; that's a separate issue IMO.
It was about whether we throw out guys like Washington and Jefferson because of their ties to slavery.

If you want to start throwing out important people just because some of their actions where bad in hindsight, eventually we're going to run out of history to celebrate.

Fourth rule is, 'Eat kosher salamis'

Absolutely, Robert Byrd does not deserve to be honored anywhere. Why make it a Republican/Democrat thing, though? I hate that partisan thinking.
I'll take you places the hand of man has not yet set foot...

ROBERT BYRD at least acknowledged his KKK mistake and apologized for it.  Fnck him.  He will always be most noted for his KKK affiliation and opposition to the Civil Rights Act of 1964.  Unless you're from WV, I doubt he'll be remembered.
If we're talking WASHINGTON or JEFFERSON, BYRD is a poor corollary.

I agree 100%. I could give a rats ass about political parties.
I actually agree with you on this, Dumbo! I mean Zelmo!

We evolve as human beings and context shifts.  If we throw out WASHINGTON and JEFFERSON we will have a story riddled with holes.  It's not possible.  WASHINGTON gave this country it's freedom and JEFFERSON was our single greatest spokesman.

I don't think lots of history should be celebrated. Remembered, studied, but celebrated?
Tossing it won't make it go away. I don't think a rebel flag should be flown over a state capital- but I don't think it should be trashed either. We need to remember. If only to try to not repeat the same mistakes.
Of course that doesn't seem to work all off the time.  :bluesad:
This government has done many great things. We did a lot of bad things too. It should all be remembered , the good, bad and ugly.

I agree, except I'd say "this country"...

In today's cancel culture logic, apologies don't matter. You must have missed the disgusting eulogies granted to Robert Byrd by the likes of Hillary Clinton and Joe Biden in 2010; both of whom remain relevant today. Of course Byrd will be remembered outside of WV. Nancy Pelosi didn't include Robert Byrd's statue among the Washington DC monuments that were to be removed, did she?

Sounds like politics as usual.  P.A.U. Perhaps it's "woke"?
Nonetheless, I will be voting for BIDEN a real person, flaws and all, and HILLARY is not likeable or relevant.

Biden's got it so easy this November. Even when his senile old ass doesn't win the election, just tell him that he's the President now and that he can run the entire country from his basement, and his leg hairs will be all tickled pink about it.
