Mine are- in this order...

1. PSYCHO (1960) of course.
2. the BIRDS (1963)
3. NORTH BY NORTHWEST (1959) It's just so entertaining. It's like Bond without Bond. If they had started the Bond movies in the 50's, Cary Grant would have been perfect.
So what are yours?

1. VERTIGO (of course )
2. NORTH BY NORTHWEST. Just super-entertaining, classic suspense filmmaking.
3. So many possibilities for the third spot. I think I'd go with THE BIRDS, although ROPE, SPELLBOUND, REAR WINDOW or PSYCHO could all take this spot.
I'll take you places the hand of man has not yet set foot...

#2
Psycho
The Birds
Vertigo.

Honorable mentions:

The Man Who Knew Bugger All
Under Capricorn
Torn Curtain
North By Northwest
Frenzy
Marnie.

We have footage in the archives of him coming here in 1956 to do a location scout for a film.
We shall meet in the place where there is no darkness.

REAR WINDOW
VERTIGO
SHADOW OF A DOUBT

Of course, PSYCHO is a contender for any spot, yet... since it's "favorites".
If you want to view paradise . . . simply look around and view it!

ER

1. Vertigo
2. Dial M. For Murder
3. The Manxman
What does not kill me makes me stranger.

North by Northwest & Rear Window for spots 1 & 2. The last is a tossup between Dial M & The Man who Knew Too Much.

The Man who Knew Too Much.

Which version?
I prefer the 1934 version- just because of Peter Lorre.

Haven't seen the '34 version yet. Hitchcock considered the later version better, but most critics prefer the earlier. (Going by memory.)

The Burgomaster

The first two are definite. #3 is a touch call. But here we go:

1. North by Northwest
2. Notorious!
3. Frenzy

#3 easily could have been Psycho, The Birds, Dial M for Murder or The Man Who Knew Too Much (Stewart/Day).

well North By Northwest (1959) is an utter masterpiece of a film if i ever saw one it's a totally perfect film and it's i think his best.

i dunno about my top 5 to be honest there's so many the man who knew too much (1934) for me anyways i find it to be a pretty boring film actually i prefer the remake with Jimmy Stewart And Doris Day.

Vertigo (1958) would be one,  Notorious (1946) there are some of his i haven't seen in years but i also love Mr. and Mrs. Smith (1941)

Rebecca (1940) i dunno i can't just pick 5 well counting those i just did apparently but those are ones that just popped into my head but i can't say those 5 would stay my top 5 those are just ones i just happen to love

ralfy

Rear Window, The Birds, and Vertigo.

Rear Window (1954) has never been among my favorites at all it's not a bad movie by any means but i just don't care for it even when i first saw it in the 90's.  and even less now because you see tv shows or movies do the same exact storyline as Rear Window (1954) such as Castle (2009-2016) where Rick had a broken leg and the gang put on a fake murder just like Rear Window (1954)

or another one that is used far too much is the plot line of one of my favorites Strangers on the train (1951) the film is brilliant but the storyline with 2 guys meeting on a train and complain about someone that drives them nuts.... has been done to death on tv i think

I never cared for the Birds either (1963) i've seen it numerous times as a matter of fact but it's not among my favorites and if i recall it was an early use of the green screen as well. i dunno what the 1st film used a green screen to be honest but Hitch used one for The Birds (1963)
