Two more pieces. First a review of the hixploitation flick White Lightning that was part of a movie swap. Then a Roundtable on our favorite action movies of the Nineties.

Mutant Reviewers has started a new podcast called Mutant Matinee, where we give movie recommendations. Yours Truly is in the first episode, and I'll hope you'll pardon my stutteriness, as this is my first time.

cool pod... not really into anime but never heard of your first pick THE RESURRECTED, sounds like something I want to check out.

of the other picks, I have STONE COLD on Bluray (rewatched it just the other day in fact) and saw EMPIRE RECORDS last year for the first time. it was pretty good, not sure I'd want to watch it again? didn't really grab me in the same way  DAZED & CONFUSED did... captured that whole teen slacker 90s thing much better I thought.

seen a few clips of PCU on youtube, looks very 90s.

USED CARS sounds fun...

It's actually been reviewed on this site (and is where I first heard of it).

So I've been thinking of writing a feature on ghost hunting anime series Dark Gathering, with an ideal target of Halloween or Christmas if I blow it (because ghost stories at Christmas are a thing). I got the idea of having each arc discussion featuring the name of a song for the title. Here's a list of songs (along with the artists and which arcs they allude to) I came up with. The ones marked with asterisks are ones I'm not entirely certain on and would be interested in hearing alternate suggestions.

People Are People [Depeche Mode] (main character introductions)*

Ghostbusters [Ray Parker Jr.] (monster of the week shenanigans)

Girls Just Want to Have Fun [Cyndi Lauper] (introduction of outwardly carefree dumb blonde Ai Kamiyo and her tragic fate)*

Don't Go Near the Water [The Beach Boys] (taking on a spook that haunts a waterfall)

Toy Soldiers [Martika] (procuring the ghost of a WWII soldier)*

Don't Talk to Strangers [Rick Springfield] (investigating an abandoned tunnel with the ghost of an ax murderer and a sketchy ghost hunting YouTuber)

Our House [Madness] (acquiring an abandoned building to store their high-powered spooks)

Love Shack [The B52s] (procuring the ghost of a geisha currently stored at an abandoned love hotel)

Too Much Blood [The Rolling Stones] (taking on a sort of proto-wendigo)*

Teacher, Teacher [.38 Special] (the vengeful ghost of a teacher is unleashed at Yayoi's school)

Don't You Forget About Me [Simple Minds] (an op is planned to free Ai from her fate, who had kind of been shoved to the background after her initial introduction)*
