What Food is Overrated?

Turkey.

If it's cooked right, I can tolerate it, but I'm just not a big fan of it.  My mom made it one Thanksgiving, and it was stronger and more "gamey" smelling than usual.  I couldn't eat it.  The other day, she made soup with some frozen ground turkey in it.  Just the smell of it cooking made me want to hurl.

Blue cheese is another one.

Effin' gross.  Years ago, McDonalds mistakenly put it on my salad.  As I started eating it, I kept thinking, what the hell is rotten on my salad?!?

I also think Twinkies suck.  And, I feel the same about most other cakes like them that are just sugar, chemicals, and food coloring.

So there is a science behind cooking steak. I was just reading tips on reddit because plenty complain about the meat always being chewy.

~ hand pressure trick for determining doneness. Works for some, doesn't work for most.
~ thermometer. Highly recommended.
~ room temperature before cooking the steak.
~ pummel the steak with your knuckles and fists.
~ cast iron pan. Highly recommended.
~ higher quality steak should be cooked very quickly at high heat.
~ regular cuts of steak can cook at lower heat.
~ for tenderness try coating the steak in kosher salt about 30 minutes before cooking.
~ You'll get the feel for it, it takes some time and practice but it's worth it.
~ good luck.

I don't have a thermometer, don't have a cast iron pan. Is it really worth it? I have a feeling I'll need lots of practice.

^ I have a large cast iron pan. But you don't need one. A little bit of oil on the bottom. Get it hot. Put chopped onions in, drop seasoned steak. Taste what your cooking.

I never had kale.
Asparagus is the worst food on the planet. Along with okra. Slimy, nasty.
I agree with Cerebus about shellfish.
Yikes! Creepy overlarge underwater insects. That you boil alive!  :buggedout:

I love me some shellfish, even if they aren't that good for you compared to fish.  Grilled,  boiled, or fried I love to eat them.

Wraps and crêpes

I know way too many people crazy for wraps, and I just don't get the appeal. Folks don't do breakfast wraps in my neck of the woods. The most common variant here are wraps filled with cream cheese, vegetables, chicken or tuna. B-L-A-N-D as hell.

Same goes for crêpes. Most common here are crêpe with nutella. People act like it is the food of the gods. I do like nutella, but I don't like crêpes. They have a weird rubbery texture. Don't like.

ER

Food in general is overrated. It exists because of some weak point in our design to keep us alive, to fuel us, no different than the intake of oxygen or water, and eating is in general sort of gross and has led to too many people abusing it in so many detrimental ways, so why is it this glorious undertaking that it's often made out to be? In general the better it tastes the worse it is for you, and that alone should clue us in on its diabolical nature.

Oh, and green beans are also overrated.
What does not kill me makes me stranger.

Red Velvet Cake

Had it all my life and seriously, it is nothing special. I once read they use bug blood for coloring, not sure if that is true. The best thing about red velvet cake? The icing.

and this

I don't mind chocolate covered fruit but I always thought caramel apples are awful. They are sticky and difficult to bite because they are on an easy to break skewer stick. Whoever invented the caramel apple didn't put much thought in it.

Red velvet cake is chocolate cake dyed red. It is the color and "fancy name" that makes it so popular I guess.
