There used to be a topic on here "I Was This Many Days Old Before I... "Well I was this many days old before I learned tuberculosis ossifies the tissues of the heart, and some think his earlier bouts with TB may have had that effect upon the heart of Percy Shelley, and that was why his heart wouldn't burn in his funeral pyre in Italy and why it was able to be plucked out of the fire and preserved, some say into today. It may be drowning didn't shear much time off Shelley's life, and he was on the path to a Keats-like ending from an impending return of his consumption.

Probably the most amazing book I ever read was Susan Sontag's "Illness as Metaphor". A hundred or so years ago, people with TB were considered beautiful, poetic people while people who had Cancer were seen as cold and afraid to live.

Sontag was a socialist, the real kind like literally didn't believe in markets and got breast cancer. She was shocked to discover not only the general perception that this was a right wing disease but that there were actually forms of therapy designed to make you less of a Cancer getting person. To this day, I probably don't go a month without thinking about stuff from this book.

Been studying basic (really basic) Hebrew since December and taking a course on the Babylonian Talmud, which is way more comprehensible than the Jerusalem Talmud, and I remarked that it would make a good movie, and I swear, you'd think I'd given out an Easter basket on Passover, the reaction to my comment was so negative. I still think it would, though. What's wrong with making a film out of sacred texts when every religion I can think of has done it? Awkward moment.

.... Should I ask what's with the US and Greenland's relationship right now?

On a more positive note I had dinner with a guy friend who kept checking up on me during my sister's mental meltdown, and it was nice. Before I started my life journey I wouldn't have thought to go out with a guy, but now I find it adorable.
yeah no.

A woman I know was just recently mauled by a pit bull. She sent me pictures of the wounds. They are terrifying. She'll have lifelong scars for sure.   :bluesad:

It's been two years since I started my journey. My only regret is not starting sooner.
