that ANTS sleeve would probably be apt for a Michael Bay remake...

I really wish MNet would release The Last Lion (1972) internationally as it is a good film - screenplay by Wilbur Smith, no less - but the stories about its' production make it something along the lines of The Conqueror for what happened to some of its' cast and crew.  Buggedout

Quote
This troubled production is known as South Africa's cursed film: in addition to the death of the sound person James Chapman - mauled to death by a supposedly tame lion on set - several other people connected with it died either during production or in post-production, notably the star Jack Hawkins and the composer Con Lamprecht. The trainer of the lion was also brought up on charges of attempted murder relating to the death of James Chapman.

Already mentioned but it's coming out on Blu-ray today (with an interesting cover):

Also not mentioned (I think) but also out on Blu today, from 1977:

have now acquired both of the above (albeit the euro import R2 DVD versions). will drop some feedback when watched

seen ANTS before on youtube ages ago but can't remember much about it... don't even remember Lynda Day George being in it. she's a cutie, if a bit doll - like?

ok managed to squeeze in ANTS last night.... again love the late 70s budget vibe. something about this era makes me feel really nostalgic even though I don't remember it....

pretty formulaic for the most part. seems the ants were used as a catalyst for people having accidents, not being eaten alive. fun film though, 7/10...

the biggest irony is that when I lived in France as a kid, on the beach there I actually witnessed larger clusters of ants than ever appear onscreen  in this film! and they were way bigger ants, like beetle-sized...

watched TARANTUALS: THE DEADLY CARGO tonight. similar to ANTS really, bit more rough & ready and with more bad guys.

there's a plane crash sequence where you see the aftermath with the huge plane in a field all broken up and I thought, did they have the budget for that? or did they happen upon an actual plane crash and film it guerilla style? cause it didn't look like stock footage
