I picked.up THE SENDER on bluray the other day. never heard of it before but the blurb on the back says "Quentin Tarantino's favourite film of 1982". not watched it yet but that piqued my interest enough to buy it anyway
yeah, he's always been a huge fan of The Sender. I like it very much myself. It is usually labelled horror but I think it is more of a psychological thriller mystery with elements of horror, psychological horror, sci-fi and the supernatural. I'm probably making this sound more ambitious and artsy than the film actually is.
According to legend Tarantino once met the director of The Sender on a plane and told him how much he loved The Sender and that he did an Intergral cut combining the different versions. Apparantly the theatrical version differs from the home video version, and the TV version differs from the home video and theatrical version.
The Sender was a flop when released to theater, I think it only pulled in $7m. Because of that distributer Paramount decided to release the film straight to video and TV outside the U.S.
