If I were suspicious (I am) I'd suspect this play was made to try to draw attention away from Iran's on-going human rights crisis and the protests over it's treatment of women plus the brutal oppression of them.

In general whenenver as Islamic country faces problems, a standard tactis is to bring up something involving Jews to divert the public.

Might have to watch "Zellig" again as a counter protest.
