...Rocky Horror could go to bat in either category, lol. It's entertaining but baaad, and definitely the sorta film this site was founded to extol.

Or EXCLUDE...  :teddyr:

ROD STEIGER

Best:  THE CHOSEN  (1981) is his best acting job, best film must be IN THE HEAT OF THE NIGHT (1967)

Worst:  THE SPECIALIST  (1994) I admit I haven't seen it...a notoriously bad big success...

If you want to view paradise . . . simply look around and view it!

Later in his career Rod Steiger played Gordon Kahl, the former war veteran turned anti government fugitive in The Twilight Murders  which had several other titles.
We shall meet in the place where there is no darkness.

ROD STEIGER had been in my mind since I saw this thread but couldn't think of a bad performance... but then THE CHOSEN was on TCM the other night, I love it, watched it again, and his performance always breaks me down.  He is both fearsome and cuddly.  And I had to talk about it.

I liked his performance in Waterloo, but he also did fine in Waterfront.

I'm reminded of Widmark, with that fascinating performance in Kiss of Death:

Brutal, baby!

Best and worst roles rather than movies, surely, but I love these guys, so I feel bad about referring to worst roles, even for actors like John Wayne in Conquerer. Can one say, "That's right, pilgrim, this town ain't big enough for the both of us" or something like that, or maybe "Watcha wan' me ta do, pain' a pitcher for ya?" in a Mongolian accent?

I'm sure someone has already mentioned Great Scott. Forget Patton because Turgidson rocks:

Hell, yeah!

Meanwhile, mmmmmm...Maggie....

Western canonist with a neo-fascist streak? Now, that's hot!

I haven't looked at LAST TANGO and admit I don't want to.  But his worst film has got to be : TEAHOUSE OF THE AUGUST MOON (1954)

THE CHANGLING is indeed crap (I like it).
I still think his best is PATTON though his Scrooge for TV is the only other one worth bothering with.
