^ I love FORBIDDEN PLANET. One of my favorite 50's sci-fi films. I like WAR OF THE WORLDS, somewhat better, if just for the cool Martian machines.

FORBIDDEN PLANET is loaded with dated sexist tropes.  It is corny but cool. 

I agree with Ron; WAR OF THE WORLDS looks as good and is much better.  From the same era and superior include THE THING FROM ANOTHER WORLD  NOT OF THIS EARTH  INVASION OF THE BODY SNATCHERS to name a few.
