good call on MAGNUM FORCE... the best of the dirty harry films imo, and probably my fav eastwood film overall

I like PSYCHO 2 a bit more than the original.  :teddyr:

controversial! well maybe not, it's a very different film. good atmosphere, quite low key iirc... don't think I've ever seen part 3 or 4

cheech & chong, scraping the barrel now?  :teddyr:

btw the only English movie sequel I can think of that has a "2" in the title is INBETWEENERS 2... that can't be the only one, surely?

in no real order, and using "sequel" as the 2nd movie in a franchise and not something beyond that in a film franchise/ cinematic universe

The Dark Knight (2008)
The Godfather Part 2 (1974)
Aliens (1986)
The Empire Strikes Back (1980)
Superman 2 - The Donner Cut (2006)
Kill Bill Volume 2 (2005)
Police Story 2 (1988)
From Russia with Love (1963)
Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom (1984)
Three Colors: White (1994)

another 10.. this was tough

Bride of Frankenstein (1935)
Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior (1981)
Terminator 2: Judgment Day (1991)
Spider-Man 2 (2004)
Rocky 2 (1979)
The Bourne Supremacy (2004)
For a Few Dollars More (1965)
Magnum Force (1973)
The Conjuring 2 (2016)
Patriot Games (1992)

10 more.. these all just missed my cut

Saw 2 (2004)
Insidious: Chapter 2 (2013)
The Matrix Reloaded (2003)
Doctor Sleep (2019)
Superman 2 (1980)
Toy Story 2 (1999)
Lethal Weapon 2 (1982)
John Wick: Chapter 2 (2017)
Kingsmen: The Golden Circle (2017)
Blade Runner 2049 (2017)
Kubrick, Nolan, Tarantino, Wan, Iñárritu, Scorsese, Chaplin, Abrams, Wes Anderson, Gilliam, Kurosawa, Villeneuve - the elite

I believe in the international communist conspiracy to sap and impurify all of our precious bodily fluids.

No BIRDEMIC: THE RESURRECTION (2017)?

It's not even remotely close to the level of "good-bad" of the first one

It's a greatest hits of Birdemic, we meet a lot of the same characters, none who evolved since the events of the first film

There's a giant horrible CGI jellyfish - otherwise it's basically the same movie with no new ideas

The director knew what made Birdemic a cult movie, tried to be in on the joke & it fell flat on it's face

Very disappointing

I agree that MAGNUM FORCE is the best DH.

I saw PSYCHO entirely too young (like - 7 or 8 at most), so was too immature to appreciate its smart direction and subversive approach at a first viewing, and into the bargain had already read about the twist in a book on film. Thus also - no shock value. I've revisited it in adolescence and adulthood and I acknowledge everything it does well, but it's an austere appreciation. It's just not possible for me to get too excited about it, having my first exposure being such a misfire.

PSYCHO 2 smartly goes in a different direction (while building on the foundation of the original), allows (or forces) us to sympathize w/ Norman again, and puts him in legitimately tense and suspenseful situations. I really dig it.

PSYCHO 3... then tries to return to/recreate the original, reducing Norman again to just... a psycho. It failed for me altogether.

IV is a semi-prequel that then kind of rewrites subsequent PSYCHO lore, but as it again sympathizes w/ Norman and strives to provide redemption for him, it's interesting and kind of satisfying.

The GVS remake does not exist in my dojo.

not sure why but I revisited the remake recently. to see if it was the same as I remembered. and it was - just as pointless. there are some films that should just never be remade, and that's one of them. there is no WAY vince vaughn was going to hold a candle to anthony perkins.

yeah I've also heard #3 isn't great...quite interested to check #4

I've been tempted in one of my 31 Films for Halloween marathon to do a "Revisit" catalog. Films that A) I thought was overrated on my first time watching it. B) A film I hated with everyone else at the time but now seeing if the film deserves reevaluation C) A film I've seen clips/parts of a film but haven't seen the entire thing.

Psycho (1998) was under consideration after the recent Shout/Scream Factory release.
