Some entries I may have missed:

HOUSE ON STRAW HILL/EXPOSE/TRAUMA (1976)
British shocker with Linda Hayden, Udo Kier and softcore luminary Fiona Richmond.  A writer struggling with finishing a novel hires a secretary and rents a cottage out in the country.  The secretary's sinister intentions eventually come to light.  Released with an X rating for sex/violence, and even that version was already cut.  Later further cut for an R rating.  The 2013 Severin Films DVD/Blu-Ray release under the title HOUSE ON STRAW HILL is the uncut version.

THE JEKYLL AND HYDE PORTFOLIO (1971)
Weird take on the Robert Louis Stevenson tale, throwing in extra violence and sex/nudity.  Rated X.  Poorly made with zero budget, and pretty much forgotten.

PARTY AT KITTY & STUD'S (1970)
One of Sylvester Stallone's first films.  Stud and his lover Kitty have a great sex life, and to make things even hotter, some female guests come over to help showcase his virility even more.  Rated X for sex/nudity.  Stallone made this film out of desperation as he was on the streets.  Later, after his ROCKY success, this was re-titled THE ITALIAN STALLION.
"O the legend they say, on a Valentine's Day, is a curse that'll live on and on.."

More trivia:

PARTY AT KITTY & STUD'S/ITALIAN STALLION (1970)
-Despite it basically being promoted as hardcore by editor Gail Palmer, it was a softcore film (which Stallone himself said would almost be PG today).  Several decades later a version surfaced with completely unrelated hardcore scenes added, from actors unrelated to the film.
-In addition to living on the streets, Stallone said he took the job because it was either that or he'd have to rob someone for money.  He was paid $200.
-Knowing Stallone wasn't proud of the film, the film's owners (after Stallone's ROCKY fame) asked for $10,000 from Stallone in exchange for halting further release of the film, to which Stallone stated "I wouldn't buy it for 2 bucks".

HEADLESS EYES (1971)
-Also released in the 1980s as BLOOD THIRSTY BUTCHER.
-On occasion it was mistakenly advertised as rated PG (!).
-Double-featured with the film THE GHASTLY ONES (1968).

THE COOK, THE THIEF, HIS WIFE, AND HER LOVER (1989)
-Actors Michael Gambon and Ciaran Hinds would appear together in HARRY POTTER AND THE DEATHLY HALLOWS PART 2 (2011), the same year Hinds and co-star Roger Ashton-Griffiths would appear in GAME OF THRONES.
-The play 'TIS PITY SHE'S A WHORE inspired this film.
-Unrated upon theatrical release, and later given the new NC-17 rating for video release.

ARABIAN NIGHTS (1974)
-Actress Barbara Grandi was 13 years old at the time of filming.  Her sex scene with Alberto Argentino was thankfully performed by a much older body double.
-Director Pier Paolo Pasolini originally wanted to use more location native actors (Iran/Yemen/Nepal/N. Africa) but the Muslim governments would not allow nudity from their citizens, so he had to largely use Italian actors.
-Star Ninetto Davoli was Pasolini's lover.  He left Pasolini to marry a woman before the movie's filming.
-Based on the Middle Eastern stories ONE THOUSAND AND ONE NIGHTS, but featuring just 16 stories.

WHAT?/CHE? (1972)
-Producer Robert Evans, who wanted director Roman Polanski to helm CHINATOWN for him, told him he'd pay him whatever WHAT? grossed in its first week.  Polanski agreed, expecting it to be a hit, but it only made $64.
-Lead character Nancy is based on Playboy Magazine's comic "Little Annie Fanny".
-Uncredited actress Renate Langer (appearing as a naked girl with a hat) claims Polanski raped her twice, once before and once during filming.

More movies that qualify:
CINDY AND DONNA (1970)
Shy young Cindy's stepsister Donna teaches her to loosen her morals in the 60s.  X for sex/nudity/violence.  Cut and re-rated R in 1971.

PERFORMANCE (1970)
Mick Jagger stars as an ex-rock superstar with a guest house, who makes a hoodlum on the run his houseguest.  Drugs, sex, and a battle of wits/identity ensue.  Rated X upon release in the US for sex/nudity/drug use/violence.  Decades later, re-rated R.

WITCHCRAFT '70 (1969)
Mondo style documentary about Satanic rituals/voodoo/black magic around the world.  Originally X for nudity/violence, re-rated R after cuts in 1974.  Anton LaVey appears!

"O the legend they say, on a Valentine's Day, is a curse that'll live on and on.."

And more trivia:

TROPIC OF CANCER (1970)
-Based on the 1934 Henry Miller autobiography novel of the same name, though the film is set several decades later.
-Rated X in the US on release, and given an NC-17 rating in 1992.  It's probably one of the more notable examples of films that didn't deserve their rating (reportedly the first film with the word "c**t" in its dialogue, which may have been instrumental in its rating).
-Miller himself helped a bit with the production.  The film was the result of a bet between Miller and his film producer friend Robert Evans, which Miller won.

THE SEDUCTION OF INGA (1968)
-Initially released in the US with an X rating, then re-rated R after a lesbian sex scene was trimmed.
-The success of the film's song "She's My Kind Of Girl" in Japan by Bjorn Ulvaeus and Benny Andersson prompted them to form the band ABBA.
-Finished in 1968 but generally not released until 1971.
-Not nearly as successful worldwide as the first film, INGA.  Nevertheless it developed interest on late-night cable.

CAN HEIRONYMUS MERKIN EVER FORGET MERCY HUMMPE AND FIND TRUE HAPPINESS? (1969)
-According to co-star Joan Collins, who was married to star/writer/producer/director Anthony Newley, this film helped spur the deterioration of their marriage.
-Co-star Connie Kreski was Playboy Magazine's Playmate of the Year for 1968.
-British actress Linda Hayden tried out for the role of Mercy Humppe, which went to Kreski.  When she went on to promote her film BABY LOVE (1969) in New York, Newley and other actors were promoting this film-- and at the same hotel as Hayden.  Though married to Collins, Newley asked Hayden out-- which her manager denied due to being suspicious of Newley wanting to sleep with her.
-Due to its ridiculously long title, many theaters simply shortened its marquee title to HEIRONYMOUS MERKIN.

HEAVY TRAFFIC (1973)
-Director Ralph Bakshi was fired during production after getting into a fight with a producer, then re-hired.  Animator Chuck Jones was approached to replace him, but he declined.
-The lead actor Joseph Kaufmann, who plays Michael, died in a plane crash before the film's release.
-Influenced by the novel LAST EXIT TO BROOKLYN.  Its author, Hubert Selby Jr., became friends with Bakshi.
-Bakshi turned down directing THE NINE LIVES OF FRITZ THE CAT (1974) to work on HEAVY TRAFFIC.
-Released as X, and edited/re-rated R in 1974.
-Considered by many critics to be Bakshi's best film, even moreso than FRITZ THE CAT (1972).

BAD TIMING: A SENSUAL OBSESSION (1980)
-Director Nicolas Roeg and star Theresa Russell married, despite him being 30 years her senior.
-While lead actor Art Garfunkel's screen girlfriend (played by Theresa Russell) was trying to commit suicide by pill overdose, Garfunkel's real-life girlfriend Laurie Bird committed suicide in real life via Valium overdose.
-After an initial X rating upon release, its distributor World Northal released it as Unrated.  The UK distributor Rank Organization was disgusted at the film and pulled their logo from its UK release prints.

More to throw on the pile:
LORNA THE EXORCIST (1974)
A man's ex-girlfriend, a witch, re-enters his life after he marries and has a daughter.  She looks to settle an old debt in her own evil, possessive way.  X for sex/nudity/violence.  Sleaze king Jess/Jesus Franco directs.  An edited version is called DEMONIAC and a version with hardcore porn added is called SEXORCISME.

SAVAGE MAN, SAVAGE BEAST (1975)
Mondo-style movie involving savagery by man and by animal, and sometimes towards each other.  Generally either rated R or Unrated, sometimes with the "No One Under 17 Admitted" blurb for violence.  Like FACES OF DEATH, it is largely fake.

THE DEVIL'S PLAYTHING (1974)
Cultists worshiping an ancient lesbian vampire supply her with bodies to re-incarnate into.  X for sex/nudity/violence.  Sexploitation director Joe Sarno helms.

FLOSSIE (1974)
Swedish film involving the young girlfriend of an embassy officer, who experiences a myriad of sexual encounters.  X for heavy sex/nudity.  Director Mac Ahlberg also worked as a cinematographer/photographer on many American films.

THERESE AND ISABELLE (1968)
Lesbian drama involving 2 girls at a Swedish boarding school, hurt by men, who become lovers.  Generally Unrated but sometimes with the "No One Under 17/18" blurb for sex/nudity.  Praised for its realism.  Directed by sexploitation auteur Radley Metzger (SCORE, THE LICKERISH QUARTET, THE ALLEY CATS).

THE KILLING OF SISTER GEORGE (1968)
Another acclaimed lesbian drama, involving a soap opera actress finding out that she will be written out of her series, and having to adjust to being a voice actor in a children's program.  On top of that, her girlfriend is having an affair with a predatory tv producer.  Released as X, and re-rated R in 1972.

Cool!  I haven't actually seen it, but I would assume the rumors are true about it being largely staged.

I believe most of it, including that lion attack, were staged.

SEBASTIANE (1976)
Set in ancient Rome, the film deals with the gay relationships among soldiers under the reign of Emperor Diocletian, one of them being Saint Sebastian (who was famously shot by arrows).  X for sex/nudity/violence.

DIFFERENT STROKES (1998)

A THOUSAND & ONE NIGHTS (1969)
Japanese animated film for adults, concerning the Aladdin stories (here he is known as "Aldin").  He goes from rags to riches and back, with many sexual exploits on the way.  Osamu Tezuka of "Astro Boy" fame worked on this.  Predates the far more successful FRITZ THE CAT by 3 years!  Barely released in the US-- and then lost for several decades-- with quite a lot of cuts (nearly a half hour!), finally getting a Blu-Ray release in 2020 which also contained the original Japanese version, which was self-applied as rated X for sex/nudity/violence/disturbing scenes.

SWEET SWEETBACK'S BAADASSSSS SONG (1971)
A black sex worker kills 2 white cops while defending a Black Panther member and goes on the run.  Initially rated X for sex/nudity/violence; re-rated R in 1974.  Directed by and starring Melvin Van Peebles.

Don't forget that Van Peebles cleverly turned the "X" rating into a selling point in his ad campaign: "Rated X by an all-white jury!"

"O the legend they say, on a Valentine's Day, is a curse that'll live on and on.."
