51. PINK FLAMINGOS (1972)

Honestly, I'm not sure how this was rated on its original release---I'm sure it had to come with an "adults only" rating, at least in some places. However, in 1997 it was re-released to theaters with an NC-17 rating, so it fits.

I'll take you places the hand of man has not yet set foot...

52. DAWN OF THE DEAD (1978)
One of the best horror films ever made, this is also a commentary on American consumerism.  Two TV reporters and two SWAT agents hole up in an abandoned mall with the undead inside.  After eliminating the zombies to make the mall safe for plundering, a biker mob discovers them and breaks in, letting more undead hordes in.  NO ONE UNDER 17 WILL BE ADMITTED, for some truly nasty gore, including scenes with a helicopter propeller and a blood pressure machine (!).
"O the legend they say, on a Valentine's Day, is a curse that'll live on and on.."

53. ARABIAN NIGHTS (1974)

Another art movie originally rated X for sex, later given an NC-17.

54. DICE RULES (1991)
No-holds-barred concert film of comedian Andrew "Dice" Clay at Madison Square Garden, with some sketches.  NC-17 for tons of profanity.
"O the legend they say, on a Valentine's Day, is a curse that'll live on and on.."

Rev. Powell

Tie Me Up! Tie Me Down! (1989)

Another one that would probably get an "R' today, this Spanish black comedy was originally rated X, then one of the first movies released with the then-new NC-17. The poster here just says "no one under 18 admitted."

56. RE-ANIMATOR (1985)
A young mad doctor on a medical campus drags a fellow student and his girlfriend into his schemes to bring the dead back to life.  NO ONE UNDER 17 ADMITTED for heavy gore and some nudity.
"O the legend they say, on a Valentine's Day, is a curse that'll live on and on.."

57. INTRUDER (1989)
Comedy/horror film about a murderous psycho loose in a grocery store.  NO ONE UNDER 17 ADMITTED for heavy gore.  EVIL DEAD/II stars Bruce Campbell, Sam Raimi and Ted Raimi appear.  GREEN ACRES stars Alvy Moore and Tom Lester are also in this!  The R-rated version is probably heavily cut.
"O the legend they say, on a Valentine's Day, is a curse that'll live on and on.."

58. Ken Russell's WHORE (1991) was originally released with an NC-17 rating. Later cut to an R for some releases.

59. CARNE (1968)
Argentine sexploitation film about a woman working at a meat-packing plant, who experiences sex at work-- both of the willing and (especially) unwilling varieties.  Rated X upon release in the US for sex/nudity/rape.  Lead actress Isabel Sarli was the long-time girlfriend of director Armando Bo, and has a sex scene with his son Victor!  Part of a trio of films (FIEBRE and FUEGO the others) starring Sarli and directed by Bo.  Director John Waters is a big fan.  Sarli's nickname was "Coca" due to her love for Coca-Cola.

60. CITY OF THE LIVING DEAD/GATES OF HELL/7 DOORS OF DEATH (1980)
Lucio Fulci weaves another daft tale with plenty of bloodletting.  A priest's suicide somehow opens the Gates of Hell.  The undead rise and some people become possessed by evil.  The US release (GATES OF HELL) posted its ads with the blurb NO ONE UNDER 17 ADMITTED.  Christopher George appears.  Memorable scenes with a drill through the head and a woman puking up her guts!
"O the legend they say, on a Valentine's Day, is a curse that'll live on and on.."

62. NIGHT OF THE ZOMBIES/HELL OF THE LIVING DEAD/VIRUS (1980)
An experiment at a chemical factory in New Guinea ends in disaster as a leak mutates people into zombies.  Italian/Spanish film.  NO ONE UNDER 17 ADMITTED.
"O the legend they say, on a Valentine's Day, is a curse that'll live on and on.."

63. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 (1986)

That box in the lower right corner reads, "no one under 17 admitted." Per AFI:  The film screened twice in Jul 1986 for the Motion Picture Association of America's (MPAA) Classification and Rating Administration, and failed to obtain the desired R-rating. The filmmakers maintained that further cuts would disappoint fans expecting the "intensity" of the original film. The film would "undoubtedly" have received an X-rating for its violence and cannibalism, and the X-rating would have created advertising and booking issues. Cannon was a nonsignatory to the MPAA and could release the film unrated, although Cannon issued the film with a warning that no one under seventeen would be admitted.

64. GOODBYE UNCLE TOM/FAREWELL UNCLE TOM/AFRICA BLOOD AND GUTS (1971)

"O the legend they say, on a Valentine's Day, is a curse that'll live on and on.."
