"ClearMind" (2024)

This popped up on my Tubi recommendations. The premise was enough to get me to start it. I was pretty much hooked when the film veered into a bit of "Don't Look Now" territory.

Yeah, for a movie that is listed as "comedy" (alongside "thriller" and "horror"), the humor is mostly dark.

You got a mother recovering from trauma. She's in a program for VR therapy. And she knows her former set of friends are planning a get-together without inviting her.

If you think you have it figured out already, the film plays into the is it real or is it VR, but reveals the truth long before the end. No, this entertaining film blends VR, "The Big Chill" (but smaller in scale), mental therapy, and some wholesome slaughter into a film that looks good and is nice to look at as the editing and camerawork keep you connected.

You get some really sharp but bitter and uncomfortable dialogue along with a few good performances. Plus -- KADEEM HARDISON!!! He got big.

Worth checking out if you want something a little different. Heck, I'd watch it again.

Wow from Another World. If Whitley had been in it would be an easier sell

You're trying to tell me a 2024 movie using the "adult in despair" is actually good?  I don't think my brain can compute that.  I might just have to watch it now, but I'm afraid if I like it I will question everything else I believe.

Stranger things have happened though... I watched the 2004 movie Cellular with Kim Basinger when it was new and I didn't hate it and it didn't kill me.
