Evil Dead has Ash going to the cabin in the woods with his friends, sister, and a girlfriend named Linda.  The read from the book of the dead, everyone but Ash gets killed, and at the very end we see something get Ash.  That was a spoiler, by the way, if you haven't watched Evil Dead, you shouldn't have read that. 

Evil Dead II starts with Ash going to the cabin with a girlfriend named Linda, NOBODY ELSE, and ... yada yada yada... 

Lots of people say II is just flashing back or retelling 1.  Personally, I prefer to think that somehow, the evil spirits either managed to let Ash go, or he shook them loose (the sequel does show him over coming their possession) and he tried to go back to his life just with no memories of what had happened, either magically suppressed or mentally blocked.  Then something inside him slowly dragged him back, he took another girl named Linda to the cabin and ... well, thing went bad.

I mean, I dated three women named "Erin" within about a four-year period once and can't explain it. Anything's possible!
