Giving this its own thread because I think most people here will really enjoy this one.

A Satanic cult operating out of an upscale Manhattan apartment building picks the worst possible choice for their annual sacrifice. Zazie Beetz kicks ass in this over-the-top, cartoonish, gory horror/action hybrid that's like what would happen if Sam Raimi directed "Kill Bill" by way of "Rosemary's Baby." From Russian director Kirill Sokolov, whose first movie, WHY DON'T YOU JUST DIE?, showed an incredible talent for choreographing complex melee scenes on a microbudget---here, he's working with Hollywood money and can do pretty much anything he wants. When I first saw this trailer in the theater, I was so surprised when I saw his name pop up that I said "Kirill Sokolov!" out loud, which probably confused some of the other audience members. I give it 3.5 but I'm guessing 4/5 for this board, although the more generous raters here would probably give it 5/5.

I watched this one over the weekend and thoroughly enjoyed it. It was a right fun splatterfest!

Shot in Cape Town I believe.

I had a ton of critical issues w/ this one - uneven acting, cheap and dodgy FX, plot holes and nonsensical backstories, plus the KILL BILL-style Chapter Breaks are redundant and cheesy.

That said, the first couple of minutes set this up to be a movie that I can get behind purely on principle - and ultimately it is That Movie... a film w/ its heart and its ideology in the right place. Rich people are immortal zombies who worship an unholy pig's head and we must destroy them before they consume us? Sounds about right to me! To be fair, KILL BILL is of higher quality but KILL BILL is also about absolutely nothing whatsoever - so in that regard, Advantage: TWKY.

I must also say that this is the most Acting I can recall Patricia Arquette ever doing, and good for her.

I must also also say I would love a ruthless action thriller that begins as this one did, w/ Beetz emerging from the closet w/ a sword and sawed-off to brutally dispatch hooded assailants, but then the bad guys don't regenerate and name-actors get offed immediately and stay dead... like GREEN ROOM but w/ more diversity.
