Historically inaccurate films?

INVICTUS: made me cringe with its Hollywoodized version of the events leading up to, during and after the 1995 Rugby World Cup tournament. It made a nonsense of the post apartheid social cohesion success which was that tournament.

RUSH: the biopic of Formula I racers Niki Lauda and James Hunt. Great performances by Daniel Bruhl and Chris Hemsworth aside, the film portrays them as mortal enemies when they were actually friends off the track, more like brothers really.

THE ALAMO (1960) Indy informed me that this film is almost totally historically inaccurate and that the 2004 version is way superior in terms of accuracy. I have seen both and I agree.

ELIZABETH (1998) contained numerous historical inaccuracies, most notably that Sir Robert Dudley was involved in a Catholic plot to kill Elizabeth early in her reign and was banished from her presence permanently thereafter.  He actually was never named in such a plot, and he remained a loyal supporter and close advisor until his death many years later.

Oh man, I feel like I see these all the time. Next time I catch one that I'm sure about I'll post it here.

(I did watch THE BRIDE! last night and there are several historical inaccuracies in that which I suspect are 100% intentional.  )

You've been hating Invictus for 16 years (!) on this very forum. Congrats?

I actually walked out and requested a refund (and I wasn't the only person who did that).

INVICTUS has so many historical errors it's almost embarrassing to watch

Unfortunately, Clint Eastwood allowed many inaccuracies to slip into the film

When Sean Michael mentioned INVICTUS - which I assisted on in pre production - I went 'yikes' and 'Oy'.

When I watched it in a cinema here, most of the audience got up and left because of the inaccuracies

I think I am totally on my own when I say that I dislike The Shining, District 9 and Invictus

Reminds me of what I heard some very upset people say during a walkout of an INVICTUS screening

I will never forget assisting in pre-production research on INVICTUS: not my finest hour, unfortunately.

I also assisted in pre-production on the Clint Eastwood film Invictus which was riddled with errors

Me being forced to watch the horror that is INVICTUS.

I have three sports movies that got almost everything wrong factually:

1. INVICTUS (rugby)

I was watching a DVD of a documentary made in answer to the inaccurate horror that was Clint Eastwood's Invictus 

I hope after seeing it to be able to forgive him for the inaccurate horror which was Invictus.

Invictus: although well intentioned, this film is a largely inaccurate

I never saw the ending of this movie as most of the audience I saw it with got up and left at this point.

On the other side of the spectrum, Clint Eastwood's Invictus was laughably inaccurate.

Another one is Clint Eastwood's INVICTUS: huge acclaim for a film which is a blatant and wholly inaccurate

I couldn't believe that the IMO inaccurate crapfest known as Invictus was nominated for two Oscars.

I walked out of INVICTUS with almost half the audience who were moaning about historical inaccuracies.
