New word on the next Spider-man film, located here.

Personally, I think this might be one of the few good sequels.

Time will tell, of course...

Sounds like they're actually putting some *gasp* actual *gulp* THOUGHT into the STORY.  Do know what this means!  They're trying to make a sequel with as good a story as the FIRST!  Do you know what that means!  We might run out of stupid sequels to roast!

Not that that would be a BAD thing.  +-)

This is the greatest news ever.  I was worried since Sony already announced a release date before a script was written, they may quickly write a lame sequel and not concentrate due to time constraints.  Fortunately, a lot of talented people are involved with the Spider-Man films who I don't think would let that happen.  As much as I love the first one, I'm hoping Spider-Man 2 follows The Godfather, Superman and Star Wars, which is to say, now that they've got all the backstory and characters out of the way, we get a kick ass sequel.

I am declaring my enthusiasm for the title Spider-Man 2: Web Harder right here and now.

Fearless Freep

Doesn't that sounds like "Die Hard 2: Die Harder"?

I hope that they keep with the idea of just one villian. It will allow a better chance of character  development.

hey, multiple villians worked for Batman! I mean......

The linked article mentions their intention to avoid the "villianapolooza" that afflicted Batman

I can almost hear a studio exec saying, in all seriousness - "Hey, the first one hit 400 mil and it only had one bad guy, if we have TWO in the next one we might hit 800 or more!"

Yeah, I do think they're THAT stupid!

I'm more inclicned to think they got carried away with the "star power" of having stars in the roles of the villians and hoping the names would draw in the crowds.  After that it did get silly  of having to have several villians to get all the 'special guest stars' in

On top of having too many villains, from the very beginning the makers of the Batman series made the mistake of having the bad guys be way more important and interesting  than the titular hero. It didn't help that none of the actors behind the cape and cowl were uninteresting in the first place, but I digress. With Spider-Man they really worked at making Peter Parker/Spider-Man a likeable and interesting person. That is, after all, the heart of the Spidey saga: He's an outcast who is suddenly imbued with incredible powers, yet he finds that life only becomes more difficult with such abilities. Batman was just a p**sed-off loner that beat people up.

Which Micheal Keaton realized early on and is why he bailed

I don't quite agree with that. Batman Returns had a great story to build on with Batamn and Catwoman but, it seemed like whoever wrote the script didn't know how to work with it then they wrote in Peguin. Which in my opinion killed the movie.

Well, I guess the problem was that Tim Burton probably didn't really want to do a sequel in the first place.

Batman needs to have good villains, because the character has to have the villains to play off of to be interesting.  I think Spider-man is a little more sophisticated character, so they don't need the villains to carry the film.

I thought it was pretty good. Batman Forever is where I thought the series turned to crap.
