giant monster movies - does a GOOD one exist?

I like Gorgo , too, but I don't know if I'd call it an excellent movie.  There are long stretches with nothing going on.  Compare that to, say Mothra , it's spiritual sister.  Mothra is active for a longer stretch.  Plus, I think the characters in Mothra are far more interesting.

However, I would compare Gorgo favorably to Spielberg's Lost World .   Lost World has too many Big Issues it was to (mis)deal with.  It doesn't have the... I don't know, innocence?  of a Gorgo .  Nor has a skript as skillful as a Godzilla .

....All Toho and similar films should be seen in the original cut.
....Haveing done so, and now with Video Daikiju to provide my fillins, i can get lost in the good stuff, with no pesky yanks fumbbling up the works. "KK Vs. G" is much better with out the AIP additions. And Varan the Unbelievable become a good picture in its "Dai Kaiju Baran" glory. Infinatly improved, in fact.
....The changes were understandable, i supopose, but i highly recomend the originals, when ever its possable to get them.
....Littlenemo had a good point, and it fit with Peter Johnson's comment about "Beginning of the end", the best line in That MST being when the Nat. Guard drives away from the hoppers, and crow says "One weekend a month my ass!" Peter Graves and Giant Hoppers....ah, the power of cheese!
....Godzilla, sans Burr, is much better. So many lil neat character points get cut for Parry mason. The Reporter interviewing Serizawa makes a comment about his working with the Germans dureing the war, and he quickly changes the subject. The folks on the train reading the paper, and the man commenting about "Haveing to go back to the bomb shelters agine". Stuff like that.
....As for non Toho giants...humm...Them is a given...Kong too. Gorgo....both the MST and non "Bots" wersion. I'd like to see a remake of that. Could be good. But keep the ears! The rare Isosolies eared underwater dragon woud not be Gorgo with out them!
