Just wondering if anybody here at the ole' forum know of any upcoming Midnite Movie's from MGM? MGM seems to be out of ideas for their Midnite Movies label.

I have said it before and I will say it again, MGM really needs to release the Empire Pictures films. Their are fans who want to see FROM BEYOND and DOLLS on DVD. And what do you know, they are Empire films and are owned by MGM! A double feature would be nice.

It would be nice to get GHOST WARRIOR (which MGM definaitly owns-they re-issued it on video in the early 90's), TRANCERS, GHOULIES, TERRORVISION, and the rest in their original aspect ratios and remastered from MGM. Has anybody seen the MGM DVD release of the Empire film CRAWLSPACE? My God, the quality was BEAUTIFUL! Think of how good FROM BEYOND and DOLLS could look with that treatment!

I think a petition is needed.

MGM Midnight Movies has out MOTEL HELL as a double feature with another film that I can remember. I was wondering if the other film that I can't remeber on this DVD is anygood? I love MOTEL HELL and I'm sure the quality is good.

MGM just release a whole bunch o' cheese in August, it's only October.  It hasn't even been 60 DAYS yet since the LAST release.

Re-mastering and deciding what to release when and in which format (although I am in the just do it widescreen/anamorphic camp) takes time.  Look for more releases around springtime next year (a packed to the gills Special Edition of Escape from New York is being put together for Easter, or thereabouts), and you can safely plan on another batch released in August (to get the stores stocked up for the Halloween thriller movie sales).

If MGM dumped their entire library out within a 12 month period the market could not handle the volume (and they'd go under for sure, because you just can sell that many discs in that time) when you consider the own the rights to a lot of films from Empire, Cannon (the entire library in fact), AND American International Pictures.  Where talking A LOT of movies.  And, sometimes, copyright issues on one or two minor things can tie up a movie for a little while.  Batch releases every six months are probably a good time frame (unless they decide to pull some out of the stocking for Christmas, which I doubt).  Besides, I think that there doubling up on lesser know cult movies is smart (saves space and money and sells more of the library than single discs).  But they'll come out a heck of a lot faster than they did on video (I tell you when I was a kid you were lucky if a new movie came out on video at all, and you'd have to fight packs of velociraptors just to get to the store!)

But they will get released, and a heck of a lot sooner than Warner Brothers will be releasing theirs.

Don't know, but Motel Hell is shacked up with Deranged, the Alan Ormsby made Ed Gein biopic that starred Roberts Blossom.

I think both are in widescreen (anamorphic, I don't know) with trailers.  Either way, the disc is a steal at the price (14.99 or so, depending on which outlet you use).

MGM has been pretty tight-lipped about upcoming Midnight Movie releases, but more are definitely on the way. The one I have heard that is coming next year is SQUIRM. I read an article concerning director Jeff Lieberman where he talked briefly about it. He mentioned that the release will be the R-rated version and not the cut PG version. Also, he said that he agreed to do commentary for the DVD after he was assured the DVD would be solely devoted to the movie and not paired up with another movie.
