COFFY (1973) - After seeing an action movie documentary on AMC, I decided to rent one of the films they showed clips of. They were showing the history of action movie stars. They showed Rambo, Arnold, Willis, Weaver, Gibson, and Pam Grier. This film was COFFY starring Pam Grier.  I'd say this film is much more than an action film. Pam Greir goes quite far in this film almost making it loose its R rating I imagine for 1973.

She blows away alot of drug dealers, drives around in cars, talks alot, and gets into a big cat fight. Some of the scenes are quite graphic. The movie is all about filming Pam and she also gets alot of dialogue, action, and revenge. Much better quality than JACKSON TNT of the same type of film. The film is a bit strong on the language as well.

This movie has a very special place in my heart. This is the first movie I actually remember watching. I was probably 4 or so and my parents had an 8mm print of the film, which we would watch on occasional movie nights(this is around '78 so no VHS). The shotgun decapitations, the razors in the afro, it all makes for a true piece of....American cinema.

Everyone has potentially fatal flaws, but yours involve a love of soldiers' wives, an insatiable thirst for whiskey, and the seven weak points in your left ventricle.

I bought COFFY during my blaxploitation DVD buying spree. I think it is one of Pam Grier's best. If you like this type of movie, check out ACROSS 110th STREET with Anthony Quinn and Yaphet Kotto (it is excellent, and probably had a bigger budget than most other movies in the genre). I also like TRUCK TURNER, SLAUGHTER and (of course) SHAFT.

I'll be sure to see the rest of Pam Grier film. She was also good in GHOST OF MARS.

Brother Ragnarok

This was at B-Fest 2002, and it was one of my favorite movies of the night.  Well, it was no Heironymous Merkin, but what can you do?  Not everyone can be as cool as Anthony Newley, and no one can be as cool as Guitar Wolf.

check out Donald Goines books too.

Despite being a bit overshadowed by "Foxy Brown","Coffy" is still one of Pam Grier's best films, thanks to its gritty depictions of the streets, and its rough-edged violence(which I agree was very risky for an R rating, especially the killings at both the beginning and the very end),and risque nudity.

DARKWOLF

I always love Pam" The Body" Grier's movies when I get a DVD I gonna buy every one her 70's films maybe some 80's and 90's.
