Just purchased and viewed a DVD that I found at Best Buy today. The film is called BLOOD OF THE VAMPIRES (1970) directed by Gerardo DeLeon and starring Eddie Garcia and Amalia Fuentes. This film was made in the Philippines in real spanish dungeons. The film has some neat images for the opening credits. It really takes you to another world when you think of the traditions of the Philippines and and the style of horror from this country.  The film has some weird moments with the mother being the initial vampire in a underground tomb. Whippings, chains, screams, music, etc. make this one to be seen. It makes me want to seen some more horror from Mexico or Spain.

The DVD itself is distributed by IMAGE and its very good. Here is what you get for $17.00 :

The Uncut Movie from the original negative (Blood of the Vampires)
Audio Commentary
House of Terror Live Horror Show Promo (Theater Spook Show Commercial)
Interview with Philippine director Eddie Romero
Trailers from 8 Philippine horror films

The eight film trailers are:

Mad Doctor of Blood Island
Brides of Blood
Beast of Blood
Brain of Blood
Blood of the Vampires
The Blood Drinkers
Raiders of the Living Dead
Horror of the Blood Monsters

One of my best purchases yet. Now if I could only find a way to get that Coffin Joe films from Brazil without paying more than $40.

The Burgomaster

I have 2 of the Coffin Joe DVDs . . . I'm not sure how much I paid for them, but look online at DEEP DISCOUNT DVD (free shipping and low prices!)

I'll have to get my hands on BLOOD OF THE VAMPIRES. I just bought BRAIN OF BLOOD and BLOOD OF GHASTLY HORROR (as well as a few others) at Best Buy last weekend. I might as well spend as much money on this crap as possible!

Yes, another fine film from Gerlado de Leon and nicely done. It's in no way better than de Leon's first vampire flick THE BLOOD DRINKERS, but BLOOD OF THE VAMPIRES (or known under it's original U.S. theatrical title CURSE OF THE VAMPIRES) is a nice follow-up.

And don't forget Scott, you have to get a hold of THE BLOOD DRINKERS. It's de Leon's BEST and it shows that a movie made for practically nothing can still be good.

Thanks Chris for the info on the De Leon film on past post. I really like the 8 trailers on this DVD.
