I just saw the ads for Dagon. I was hoping it would turn up on one of the pay channels, but I see SciFi beat them to it. So, how much is this going to be butchered?

Drezzy

Heavily. The entire skinning scene will probably not be in it.

And as the world began crumbling down
Nobody around seemed to care

What's Dagon about?

It has a creepy pic on the front of the box.

A nasty guy with sharp teeth.

Isn't it based on an H.P. Lovecraft story?

Isn't it based on The Shadow Over Innsmouth or something close to that?  It's been a long time since I read Lovecraft.

The movie Dagon is based on the short story of the same name. The story is only  two pages long, so I have a hard time imageing a two hour flick based off a two page story.

The breakdown for "Dagon" is as follows (estimates)

65%:   "The Shadow Over Innsmouth"
5%:   "Dagon"
30%:  other stuff, ideas, etc.

Ok, I knew it sounded like what i remember from Shadow over Innsmouth.

That's about right.

As far as SCI FI cuts...one major scene with a lot of gore will go, and the climax has some nudity that will require some heavy cutting.  It may still be comprehensible though.  I'd suggest renting it rather than watching it on SCI FI.  As for me, I bought it the first week it was released!

How do you get movies on underwear?

Todd R.

Bonehead, you mentioned that you find it hard to believe that a feature-length film could be based on a two-page short story; however, John Carpenter's THEY LIVE is based on a three-page short story called "Eight O'Clock in the Morning."

The Burgomaster

THEY LIVE would have been better off if it stuck to the 3 pages instead of torturing me for 90 minutes.

"Do not walk behind me, for I may not lead. Do not walk ahead of me, for I may not follow. Do not walk beside me either. Just pretty much leave me the hell alone."

Todd R.

Joe, you seem to be all out of bubblegum...

You're right, Andrew Crow. The skinning scene was not in the version I saw on the SciFi Channel. Still, the TV version was rated TV14, so I imagine there was alot of the theatrical version in the TV version.
Having seen it, this would be the perfect film for this site, if anyone wants to do a review of it. It doesn't make a whole lot of sense, but it does have a certain enjoyable "cheesiness"  factor to it.
As a side note, the SciFi Channel does seem to edit out the strangest things in films. For example, the SciFi version of ":Lair of the White Worm," includes all the rape scenes in the film, but bleeps out the conversation between Lady Sylvia (Donohoe) and Kevin (Pitt) "I'm not really into headbanging."--"Are you into any sort of banging?"

I watched Dagon, and it was ok, but nothing special. It seemed like it never really got started. I mean, practically the entire movie is centered around the dorky guy running away from mutants and losing his glasses every 30 seconds. I know this was a low budget film, but I was hoping for more than just 20 seconds of Dagon at the very end.
