Thanks to those who made the connection between Kurasawa the earlier FIST FULL OF DOLLARS post. I was really into LAST MAN STANDING which I viewed this morning. Good film and yes it is much like FIST FULL OF DOLLARS with a different time period and gangsters. Now I'll have to see YOJIMBA. Bruce Willis even dos a Clint Eastwood type voice.

The Burgomaster

I'm wondering if Walter Hill will ever direct an original movie.

LAST MAN STANDING was a remake of YOJIMBO

Both THE LONG RIDERS and EXTREME PREJUDICE were rip-offs of THE WILD BUNCH (Hill said they were tributes . . . I say they were shameless copies).

SOUTHERN COMFORT was a rip-off of DELIVERANCE

Geez . . . what is it with this guy?

"Do not walk behind me, for I may not lead. Do not walk ahead of me, for I may not follow. Do not walk beside me either. Just pretty much leave me the hell alone."

Scott

I really liked the Long Riders. Never forget tha one.

Don't forget that there was also a Jeff Wincott actioneer with the same name.
I fondly remember Empire magazine predicting Wincott as the next big action star, but massive duds such as "When The Bullet Hits The Bone" ,"The KIlling Man"("The Killing Machine")and "Fatal Combat"("No Exit")quickly put an end to those aspiring hopes, with Wincott now getting minor supporting roles in recent action turkeys("Paper Bullets","Battle Queen","Profile For Murder").

Great movie, "Last man standing". I'll even buy the DVD if I found it and I am in the adequate humour. About Hill, there is no doubt he is a talented director, one of my favourites, actually, but never thought he considered himself an original author, or even a real artist.
Due to the horrifying nature of this film, no one will be admitted to the theatre.

Lee

Very cool movie that for some reason isn't in my collection yet. Walter Hill may not make the most original movies around but he's made some really good ones. I'm sure Undisputed(which rules like a king) would have done better if Miramax had put more money and effort into promoting it(getting a since of deja vue here).
