Actually, there pretty much is.  Many Bulletin Boards use the same substitution approach .   When I wrote the ezcodes for ezboard.com, I modelled much of it after ubb codes from Ultimate Bulletin Board, which looks abuot the same as what Andrew is using here in the use of [] instead of <> for many tags, and also the way url links are made.
