Independent-International Pictures producer/distributor Sam Sherman has gone on record saying that he has meet some of the most interesting men in the motion picture industry, usually just running into these people in the street by accident. Well, let me say I have ran into the most unique individual right next to Sam Raimi and that is my college teacher, who will go nameless just to give him a break.

Today it was the end of my History of Cinema class and our teacher was giving us a lecture on how to "get in" the industry. He was once a starving actor and lived in Los Angeles, with that he told us some great stories. And then he told us about the films he was in and that we were going to watch one of them. The film was SLUMBER PARTY MASSACRE 3, a 1990 horror fest that our teacher starred in under the name 'David Lawrence'. At first, we didn't seem to believe him. But when the first five minutes of the film rolled we saw our teacher during the first scene (he plays the love interest of the main heroine character), and uproarious laughter abund in the class. 84 minutes latter in the film and we were still in laughter, poking comments towards the film and just had fun.

After that we discussed how the shooting went. According to our teacher, the film was shot in two weeks and most of the film was directed by the cinematographer because the director (whose name is on the directing credits) just couldn't hack it. Yet our teacher said that the original director just told them how to act, while the cinematographer just told the performers where to stand. Then when it came to our teachers big death scene, he told us how he tried to convince the "director" to put some more fake blood on him or to have the killer shove a drill in his chest. The director said he couldn't due to the budget.

All and all, it was a fun day. It's not everyday that your teacher starred in a hillarious horror flick, but it sure provided a twist to us unsuspecting classmates.

I checked out the imdb to see if I could remember who he was in the film but they didn't have a picture.  I haven't seen slumber party massacre 3 in a while.  According to the imdb he also acted, wrote, and directed a movie called Blood Orgy of the Damned (http://us.imdb.com/Title?0289867), the tagline for that movie is:
"Fat, drunk and vampiric is no way to go through life...".

Also he's listed as acting in a movie called Back Woods and that on has a tagline of:
"When Luther's mother is killed, what's a boy to do? Why, put on a dress and slaughter many, many people as the world's first 300 pound, retarded-redneck transvestite serial killer."

Sounds like a couple interesting movies if you ask me.

Don't know if all this is true, Brian. My teacher has said that he was only in two films in the early 90's. Not only that, but I think the info on 'David Lawrence' is a bit exaggerated. I don't know, but if I ever run into him again I'll ask him about this info.

And hey, rent SLUMBER PARTY MASSACRE 3 for a good time of laughs. And my teacher is the guy who plays the boyfriend of the main heroine character. And let me tell ya', after looking at him you wouldn't believe this guy is now a teacher of History of Cinema.

Boy does that stretch the line of "Those that can, do...those that can't, teach"
