Truck Stops...a little slice of heaven, here on earth.

Since my return from the sandbox, I've been doing convoy escorts. These keep away from the house for 1-2 weeks at a time and are made bareable by the good ole' travel telly-vcr combo. I've found a (I'd think) unlikely place to find really cheap vintage and b-movies. Truck stops. There is a truck stop chain called Pilot, which I have only recently heard of and they're everywhere. The usually have a section with newer releases and more mainstream movies, but they also have...the cut out bin! They offer really old and/or really horrible movies for $2 each or 5 for $10. I've been able to pick up some good(bad)ones, some of which I've been searching for for awhile.

I picked up a damn good low-budget 50's crime thriller called Kansas City Confidential. It's a bank heist-revenge flick starring John Payne, Lee VanCleef and Neville Brand. Friggin fantastic! Also got the original D.O.A. with Edmond O'Brien. All for 2 bucks. the video quality isn't super-duper, but it's no worse than late show quality. I was also able to pick up 3 early Hitchcock film on DVD for about $5 each.
So, if you're traveling and come across one of the Mega-Super-Mondo-Deluxe-Platinum Truck Stops, stop in, you may find something nice. Be warned Truckers, smell kind of like sweat and glue.

Everyone has potentially fatal flaws, but yours involve a love of soldiers' wives, an insatiable thirst for whiskey, and the seven weak points in your left ventricle.

Yea Deej, I've seen some good deals at NJ rest area on the NJ Parkway.

Having nothing to do with buying movies there, I'd like to recommend stopping at the Big Steer if any of you are ever travelling I-35 just south of Minneapolis.  It's my favorite truck stop.

I know where you guys are coming from.  I've seen deals in the strangest of places.  For example, there's a gas station around here (in Ohio) called Gas America.  For some strange reason, they have a video section in the gas station.  Now this wouldn't be too out of the ordinary, especially if it had titles like Kickboxer 9:  The Long Road Home On Deadly Ground of the Hard Target Death Warrant.  Instead, it has tons of Godzilla movies on tape, for a really cheap price.  Very bizarre, and the last place I would expect to stock quality Godzilla titles.
