Holy crap, what a train wreck of a movie.  I loved it!  It's just like watching an old Al Adamson movie, cobbled together of three or four different things, and completely out of control.  It's like the director started with the idea of the story he wanted, but then the story took him over and he lost hold on it and it just ran rampant.  It makes very little sense, it's absolutely soaked in blood, it damn near gave me a headache.  An old-fashioned B-movie in every sense of the word, I highly recommend it!

brother R, i agree. you summed it up nicely.

unfortunately, something kept me from sitting back and fully enjoying the flick to its fullest extent. check out my other cabin fever post for more info and let me know what you think...

I kinda liked the movie, it had some good creepy scenes, but It seemed like they were trying to do the next Evil Dead 2 movie (you know comedy with a lot of horror in it) it worked well for Evil Dead 2 but not so for this movie.
(spoiler maybe)
and I HATE HATE HATE HATE the "that guns for the nig$%^s" joke. Now if all the comedy was taken out maybe it could come CLOSE ,but not there, to Evil Dead. Who knows hopefully when it's released in Europe it will have all the comedy cut out, ala Dawn of the Dead/Zombi in Italy

See that is what I hate about super horror snobs... no offense.. I consider my self the king of the B movie.. and what makes them classic is that they are serious on the outside but we laugh all the way through cause you as a B movie fan are in on the joke.  Any of these movies that we love so much are stupid when you get down to it.. That is why Evil Dead 2 is better then part 1 to me. If ya can't laugh at it when you are being disturbed or being scared then you have something missing in your soul.  Sureif everything was Toxic Avenger then teh joke would get old fast but.. ya gotta go easy. That is what makes movies like Cabin Fever great.. the universal apeal.. also never cut movies ...show what the makers were thinking when they made it. EliRoth is gonna go places and be remembered very soon, like Craven, hooper  and Raimi.  I give Cabin Fever an A cause it made me smile, and cover my eyes, the Romero ending was pricless too, f**k you white trash I always say.. The Boy meets world kid was awesome he went nukin futz and I comend him for taking a chance in this role.

I was wondering how people would take to the movie if all the comedy was taken out, I'd go see it in that form and I did catch the Romero ending heh I liked that, but still when a movies tries to hard to be funny and scary it comes out like this, but one or two jokes were good, I admit it.

I liked it overall....glad to see a newer horror movie that is actually gory.  And the jokes weren't all bad, though I have to agree with Roger Ebert that the "guns for the n_____" joke was probably more offensive than the original comment was on its own.

Usually I don't like horror movies with too much humor [for example, I don't like the Evil Dead films or Dead Alive], but this was pretty good.

Figured that since my home would soon be destroyed by the hurricane (hitting my town directly), that I would take some time off from the stress and go see Cabin Fever.

I thought the beginning of the film was great.  The humor was spot on and I was so happy to finally see a film that wasn't trying to be PC.  The dialoge was perfect for this group of college students.  From the first half of the film I was under the impression that I would have a great time with the film.  The audience was laughing their asses off.  But the problem was that the laughing didn't stop.

(not meaning this comment to hurt anyone)
I went to see this film in a marine town.  Now I know that Andrew is a marine, and I respect those that die for our country, yet I have found that most marines generally are cocky and act like idiots.  The audience was almost completely male, except for my wife, and they laughed at every frigging thing that happened.  The most serious scenes in the film were laughed at and it completely took away the power of the film.

At one point I stood up and told them that I didn't pay nearly eight dollars to hear them laughing.  The laughing stopped for a short peroid of time before picking back up full force.

Other than my laughing rant, the film did offer some pretty cool scenes.  The leg shaving scene immediatly comes to mind (no laughing during this scene 'natch).  The directing was great, we even get a lot of Raimi shots ala Evil Dead.  The film just felt disjointed and looked like it was kinda thrown together.  I really need to see it again with a different audience.

Did anyone else catch "the Road Leads to Nowhere", the song from Last House on the Left

Dave:Blackeye15

I had the same problem in my theater except it was full of civilians so I don't think it matters if the audencie were military or civilians. God I hate it when people laugh during a scene that I find sereious. I think maybe I was being a littie hard on Cabin Fever at first maybe at best 3/5 stars (but I still hate the n----- joke)

What killed me was the product placement for Arrogant Bastard Ale, which is one of my favorite beers.

I forgot that about the music from Last House being used.

One weakness....I thought the script was a little weak--I mean, the dialogue.  Maybe it is how college students talk, but I thought the use of expletives wasn't logical...not that there shouldn't have been cursing, but the curses sometimes seemed to be used because they couldn't think of any other words to use, like when one of the kids called the others a bunch of "f**king f**ks..."   c'mon, no one says that in real life.

Chopper

wuggles, sure did! there's also a slew of other songs from Last House sprinkled throught the beginning of the film. i also noticed another strong reference to Last in how they ran into that redneck's Mom and she was talking about her son and the 2 teens were trying to cover up how they were killers, just like the psychos in Last. Also with the shot of the 2 college kids there's a crucifix on the wall. in Last it is a crucifix that's around one of the criminal's necks, which is what alerts the Mom. this all makes me feel like watching Last House... :)

Mr_Vindictive

You'd be suprised.  Quite a bit of the dialogue sounded very much like a group of friends of mine.  It unfortunantly is what some college kids normally talk like.

The dialogue about the squirrels especially.

"Why do you want to kill them?"
"Cause they're gay!"

Spot on dialouge.

Cabin Fever was great, and underappreciated, in my opinion.  Most people I tell that I like it, they're like, "Oh that piece of s**t."

But I thought it was a little bit original, while being a great homage to some earlier films.  I liked that the 'villian' of the movie is a virus, yet they don't become zombies.  Seemed like something that could happen in real life.

" "guns for the n_____" "

I thought that was good, because in the end he was REPAIRING it for them.

also, our neighbors have a cat named Pancakes which always reminds me of that scene
