WAR-GODS OF THE DEEP (1965) - The film is about people who stay in this lost undersea city based on an Edgar Allen Poe story. Vincent Price stars in another role were he is master of his realm and tries to control those around him. The film also has CREATOR FROM FROM THE BLACK LAGOON type monsters and the film may have influence the idea behind DAGON.

A classic example of Vincent Price's chipped chop ham.
And includes the first underwater exploration rated pet chicken!

"Creator of the Black Lagoon"???

Never heard of it.

I have to say that "Dagon" definitely predates this one, mostly on account that it is 65% based on "The Shadow Over Innsmouth" (1936) by H.P. Lovecraft.  About 5% is from the short story "Dagon" (1917) and the remaining 30% was added in by the filmmakers.

"War-Gods of the Deep" is incredibly boring to me.  Price can certainly carry a movie with lots of talking (he would have been perfect for many Hammer films), but this one just sucks the life out of the viewer.  Part of my disappointment might have been the lack of any real conflict.  I guess I was looking for something like Captain Nemo (either incarnation from "20,000 Leagues" or "Mysterious Island").

Andrew remember the 10-15 minute underwater non-talking scene.  That was challenging only for the viewer.

Its a scene that make ya wanna pee in the pool, just to get a reaction.
