Ugh!
That's really f**kin' disturbing!

Have you noticed that no s**t like that ever happens in the U.S. ?
Only in another country will you find something like that.
At least that's how I see it.

I think what he was reffering to was the real f**ked up deformitys, like the two headed baby.
One of the big reasons you see f**ked up deformitys like this in other countrys is because there water is often infested with parasites and disease. Many parasites and diseases will affect the fetus in the womb and can cause very horrific deformitys.

I do know that that stuff happens here in the US.
It's just that we don't display it on TV for all to see like other countries do.

We'd rather not see our freaks if we can help it.

What, is there something in the water?  ASHTHECAT, if someone on this board has a deformity or loves someone that does, I bet that statement hit them just as hard as JohnL's motorcycle crack hit you.

Think, for God's sake.

If you read the article, you will see they referred to the other 'head' as a parasitic twin, then used one of the latin classifications of conjoined twins.

Deformities like this *ARE* medically considered a subset of conjoined twins.  It happens here, just as other places.

Watched Jerry Springer lately??  Or Oprah??  Or ?

These shows are an endless parade of 'freaks,' as you call 'em.

As for this particular kind of display, I see stories like those I quoted on the local news all the time...and I don't watch local news with regularity.  In fact, I was asking my wife (the Doctor) recently if the incidence of conjoined twins was increasing precisely BECAUSE they were on the news so much.  Not all were US born, of course.  But some were.

Deformities are definitely an unfortunate reality in the world. I find these occurences are often the result of either severe pollution, infestation or drug abuse in the thrid world countries.

Several years ago I was flipping channels and I came across some talk show, maybe Oprah or Jenny Jones, and they had a couple on who had conjoined twin girls. They only had one body and one set of arms and legs, so for all intents and purposes, it was a two-headed child. They were like 5 and both were of normal intelligence. Of course there would be no way to separate them, since they shared all the same organs.

Andrew

I think that pollution or other factors cause the possibility of this to increase greatly, but it could probably happen under even ideal conditions.  An tremendously complex number of things happen to make a person from an egg and a sperm.

But, third world countries do have more problems with pollution - they just do not have the money or resources to deal with it.  India has a huge problem with arsenic in their drinking water, because their shallow wells go into aquifers that are in rock tainted with the stuff.

I believe I read something along the lines of this:

A third-world country..may have been Bangladesh, I can't remember, had serious problems with widespread, stagnant water being used for drinking.  Needless to say, this caused the spread of disease.  So international aid steps in--Im pretty sure that it was the US.  We dig deep wells for them, but it turns out that the aquifers were seriously tainted with arsenic.  Many peopple got sick and died.

It's like a slapstick routine, only with corpses.

A good example of the Law of Unintended Consequences. And the phrase "The road to Hell is paved with good intentions."
