Crazy Three Stooges rumor

Heard a rumor today that Peter Farrelly wants to make a Three Stooges movie and wants Russell Crowe to play Moe Howard. Look, I liked "Gladiator" as much as the next guy, but what about Bruce friggin' Campbell?!? It's about goddamned time Bruce got some mainstream recognition and Hollywood stopped kissing so much ass.

I think Bruce would be a great choice for Moe or maybe George Clooney.

I think it's a horrible idea.
As always, if it is made, Hollywood will find a way to f**k it all up like they always do.

And I can think of NO actors who would even come remotely close to filling Moe, Larry & Curly's shoes.

The Farrellys have been planning this movie for awhile. In fact, I believe it it their next project. I didn't know about Russell Crowe, however.

How about just rereleasing cleaned up (in terms of film quality) and added footage of the real Three Stooges movies? Why this need to "improve" on the classics?

This sounds like some half-assed Jim Carrey project. I can see it now: Jim Carrey as Moe, Carrot Top as Larry, and Horatio Sanz as Curley. Craptastic.

I would hope that Bruce Campbell would have more sense than to get involved in a Three Stooges movie - I think he's a very funny guy, but not moron-funny like the Three Stooges were. This is just another Cat in the Hat/Grinch type thing - just crap all over a great comedy legacy to make an easy buck with a pre-sold idea. Hey, it beat's coming up with new ideas, right?

I don't think I like this idea. Being a life long fan of The Three Stooges(like many other people are) I don't see how this would work. They're legends in the business, they were great at it. You get other people in there trying to imitate them and that's what you'd get, an imitation. Just like The Marx Brothers, they were the best at it and nobody else can compare.

The movie on ABC a few years ago was so bad - didn't even begin to scratch the surface of the genius behind this trio (quartet if you count Emil Sitka).

Hollywood will most likely louse it up, but if anything positive comes from it; it would be releasing a comprehensive set of their shorts prior to the film's release.

Also, who is slated to play the most unfunny stooge, Joe Besser? or Shemp?

Tom Green, Carrot Top, Adam Sandler, Rob Schneider. . . they at least have the unfunnyness part down.
