Bubba Ho-Tep DVD

I picked it up the day it came out- it's pretty awesome.  I think my favorite special feature is the commentary by Bruce Campbell... done entirely as Elvis.

I rented this flick last week and actually got some very strange looks from the clerks at Blockbuster.  The lady checking us out would not even read the title of the film.  

Overall I thought it was a pretty decent movie.  It's by far one of Campbell's most in depth roles and he plays Elvis PERFECTLY.  Slow at some parts, and definently not as good as the hype said it was.  Was great to watch a mummy completely cuss out Elvis though.  

Interesting concept, not completely well done, but expertly directed by the great Coscarelli.

Slight Spoiler Alert!:

Only thing I didn't like was the ending.  I mean, if you know that they are planning a sequel already then the ending has no emotional impact to it.

Also, meant to note that if you are curious who the girl is in the beginning of the film who bends over in front of Elvis, think back to Phantasm: Oblivion (highly overlookd flick).  If I'm not mistaken, she is the chick that Reggie saves from the car wreck.

it's a shame this film never found a wide distribution. i saw it twice in champaign, IL and loved it. the premise is hilarious. i'm looking forward to the comentary.

According to the IMDB, the girl in Phantasm: Oblivion is Heidi Marnhout, who also plays Callie in Bubba Ho-Tep.

I agree that, as a film, it could be better. But Bruce Campbell is SOOO good being Elvis that he carries the film all on his own. If there was any justice in this world, he'd get an oscar for his performance.

The movie was pretty disappointing to me.  I did laugh a few times, but the film was just too hokey.  Obviously they played up the elderly part, which makes for some really slow action scenes.   The bit about the mummy sucking people souls out through their butts was plain unneeded and I was a little uncertain about the relationship between the mummy and the beetle.  Did it matter that Elvis fried the bug?

Bruce Campbell did do a fair job as an aging Elvis.  However, I almost wonder if the story wouldn't have been much better with him as a younger version of the King.  Maybe he should have gotten younger as he found something to do with his life, ala "Baron Munchausen."

I too thought that the film should have went into the "aging" direction.  I kinda thought that was how the film would go, especially after he gained control of his....umm...parts.

I agree that maybe it wasn't an "Oscar calibur" movie, but I absolutely loved it.  Ossie Davis and Bruce Campbell were phenominal, and I loved the side characters like Kemosabe and the klepto old woman.

I thought the mummy was very cool looking and the western gear made him all the better.

I loved the storyline, the dialogue was hilarious, and I enjoy "hokey".

bruce campbell rocks! i got the chance to see him speak at eastern illinois university on his book tour and he is one funny dude and was cordial to the hundreds of people that lined up for autographs and pictures.

I was in Best Buy over the weekend and I saw this DVD sitting on the shelf.  I picked it up and started reading the back cover.  Next thing I knew, this geeky Best Buy employee was standing beside me.  He said, "I noticed that you were looking at the Bubba Ho-Tep DVD."  I spent the next 10 minutes listening to a dissertation about the movie, Bruce Campbell, The Evil Dead, etc.

Why can't people leave me the hell alone?????

Perhaps, but my understanding was that the next Bubba Ho-Tep movies were prequels, not sequels.
