Naw, the real rap music doesn't suck. I don't consider the stuff you see on MTV to be called rap because it doesn't deserve the title. The real rap music which is good, are these artists worth listening to: Nas, Gang Starr, Common, Run DMC (The Godfathers of Rap), A Tribe Called Quest, De la Soul, Old School Snoop and Dre, Inspectah Deck, GZA, Ice Cube and the old Bone Thugs N Harmony and all the (GOOD) Underground stuff. These rappers don't rap about bling-bling, derogatory words for women, and expensive candy painted cars. For example Nas raps about knowledge, Common raps about life, and these rappers only use the f and s word only when it's needed, not like rappers today who over use the f and s word. The beats are completely different as well, Old School Snoop and Dre and Bone Thugs use old samples of G-Funk, Nas and Gangstarr have true rap cuts and beats, Common and a Tribe Called Quest rap to jazz beats, while the so-called rap in the mainstream have a live pop beat into it which makes it suck even more. These un-talented artists right here are not rappers and these artist give rap a bad name which makes alot of people hate rap: P. Diddy, Lil Flip and all the other rappers with the name Lil, 50 Cent, Ja Rule, Petey Pablo, Chingy, Nelly, Trick Daddy, all that Down South Garbage, and 99% of the mainstream. That stuff is not rap music and it's an insult to rap if you called those artists rappers. I hate when people say today that A Tribe Called Quest, Common, Nas, and Gang Starr are not good because they don't rap about b***hes, hoes, jewelry, clothing, money, fancy cars, and apperance. In the so called-rap mainstream you have to be ugly like Petey Pablo, have no talent, claim to live the life of a fake thug and sell millions of albums bought by posers to have MTV and radio air play. In the words by Guru of Gang Starr, "A lot of rappers be like one time wonders, Couldn't say a fly rhyme if there was one right under their noses, I hate those motherf**kin posers", and "The so-called rap music today shouldn't be called rap music".

All rap sucks. It's the way it sounds more than the words. It's not music it's just chanting set to a drum beat. If you like that, fine, but I can't stand the sound of it. It makes me want to punch someone.

Hey JohnL. I see what's wrong. I'm not going to say anything offensive against you but what I see is that you dislike rap because it's not your thing. But just because you dislike it doesn't mean rap sucks. Everyone has the right to their own opinions and I respect your opinion that you don't like it and everyone else who likes it or not. But what I am trying to say is just because you don't like it, it doesn't mean the music  sucks. Music sucks only when it isn't acceptable as a sound, for example, like all those pop rappers (like the example I gave in my other message), that's not acceptable to rap which makes it suck.

The only rap I have heard that was truly worth your while listening to is from the former rage against the machine. Also the only group I've seen remotly involving rap that actually involves any skill. Notably Tom Morello (guitars) who holds top spots in many of the world's guitar magizine's top guitarists of all time readers polls. Rap really needs to rely on lyrical content quality since no voice skills other than the ability to talk are generally (big umbrella again) needed. Maybe rappers should try to be poets since thats all they are, I doubt they will get any respect or sales when all they have is their simple lines to rely on.
