Was doing some business down town and noticed a store with it's door wide open and saw from the sidewalk a DVD store. Upon closer inspection I noticed it was all movies from India and guess what they have a Horror section both old and new for $2.00 a night. Spoke to the owner and he gave me info on the better films. Maybe next week I'll give it a try.

Kory

I LOVE Indian films- I'm looking forward to hearing which ones are good!

Scott

I'll keep you up to date Kory. Use get this Asian network on cable that had a 1 hour show on Bollywood (India's Hollywood). Believe it or not I actually enjoyed the singing and traditional dance films they showed. The store also has a many of those also.

One of my FAVORITE movies is "Monsoon Wedding".  I know it isn't a traditional Bollywood flick, but I like those too.  I'm very interested in seeing an Indian horror movie, though- they must have very interesting & cool feelings to them.

Dunners

Indian horror movies!? oh, dear GOD no!

save the world, kill a politician or two.

Scott

Dunners you know I'm running out of things to view and then I found this different opportunity just down town.

Kory the store manager said their type of horror has more to do with the soul, but he didn't seem to be interested in some of the older material on his shelve. I'll be checking them out later, not sure exactly when as I'm on a Kung Fu movie kick right now.

Scott,

I remembered this story from a while back:

"A man was found dead in his seat at a cinema in the Indian capital, New Delhi, after the late-night screening of a horror film, which the director has warned could pose a health risk to those of a nervous disposition.

A police official told Reuters that the theatre's cleaning staff found the man - aged about 50 - slumped in his seat early on Tuesday after the end of the screening of Bollywood's latest horror movie, Bhoot (Ghost).

Police said they had found no identification papers on the man or external injuries on his body.

"Nobody has come forward to claim his body. Maybe he got frightened, I don't know," said the police official.

Bhoot is a spooky thriller about a possessed housewife and is set in a high-rise Bombay apartment. It is running to packed houses in many parts of the country.

Before the movie starts, a message from the director appears on the screen warning people with heart problems or pregnant women that they view the film at their own risk.

Reuters"

I remember looking up some info on the flick when this story first hit about a year ago.  It looks pretty good.

Skaboi, BHOOT is on the shelve of the store I was at yesterday. Guess that will be the first film I pick up when I get a chance.

Mr_Vindictive

Scott,

Very cool.  Let me know if it's worth checking out.

Let us know if they're worth giving a try, I've only seen a few Bollywood/Indian films mostly mainstream action stuff like "Mission: Kashmir" or "Asoka", which I liked once I got into the vibe of the mix of plot to musical numbers. Indian horror sounds interesting and different, considering that they have limits on sex and nudity being shown, but violence in action films gets more of a pass I wonder how graphic they can be.

I need to check with a guy I know (if I can still get in touch with him), after I told him about seeing M:K, he was telling me about an Indian grocery in the big city about an hour from where I live that sold Bollywood DVDs (probably bootlegs from the prices he mentioned). How this guy finds some of the obscure foreign stuff he has access to I'll never know.

My local Hollywood has "Lagan" which got great reviews among mainstream US critics, but it sounds very mainstream compared to the stuff in this thread. Plus the run time is around 4 hours. Not feeling up to that lately.

Scott

FIRE is the only film I've seen from India besides the ones I saw parts of on Asian channel about 15 years ago. All that I've seen both traditional and modern has been freshly different and interesting. I'll be checking  some out some time soon probably starting with one or two next week.

I've been wanting to see ASOKA and MONSOON WEDDING.

Many foreign films cash in on Hollywood hits with their own production and actors/actresses of similiar qualities. Just like Hollywood has copied off foreign films like SEVEN SAMARAI and THE RING. It should be interesting.

Flange - When I first read the story last year, good ole Bill Castle did come to mind.  Nobody is that inventive anymore.

Scott,

Monsoon Wedding will be on at 8 tomorrow night on IFC.

Shucks, We don't get IFC anymore. We get Sundance. Thanks anyway Skaboi.

Mr_Vindictive

That's too bad Scott.

They've been showing some great stuff lately.
